If not this season, then its next season. Guy is a beast and only starting to heat up. What a steal at 2nd overall!

With Toews, Bergeron and Kopitar having off years, I think he gets a nomination, but it's Kesler right now. My top 3 right now are Kesler, Koivu, Barkov.

He's among the top, but Bergeron is leading the pack. It's insane how good his shots suppression numbers are, especially relative to the rest of the Bruins.

Barkov is lighting it up in recent weeks with grandpa Jagr and waiver pickups on his line.

Also doing this with an offensive inept Ekblad and struggling offensive support in Jokinen and Reilly Smith.

Imagine if teams have to focus on that 2nd line and when Huberdeau comes back

Kesler has to be at the top as of right now, December 24th

I agree that Kesler is the leader right now, but Barkov should be 2nd.
He's shown he can dominate games with anyone on his wings.

Bergerons offensive numbers are killing him and can't rate him too high now.

Bergeron should win it every season

Bergeron is 33gp 5g 5a and -1 on Bruins 18-14-4 team is -2? :handclap:

Barkov is 35gp 9g 18a and +7 on Panthers 15-14-6 while the team is -12

So, Bergeron is handed the Selke?

Just that stat line won't win you the Selke.

Offensive numbers are a reason to rate someone lower for an award that by definition is for the best defensive player?

Just going by the last years you have to produce offensively to have a shot at winning.
When's the last time 30-40 point forward has won Selke?

It's a 2way forward award.

Yes of course

Kopitar and Toews beat him because of production. Bergeron won't sniff this award if he's sub 45 pts

I love your username!
But please not koivu, please...

Thanks.

I haven't seen much of Koivu live this year, so not much to go on eye test, but some of his stats are pretty nice.

9g, 12a, 21p +16
55.4% FO percentage (3rd in the league in total FOs, 2nd in DZ FOs)
2:24 SH TOI/gm
18 takeaways, only 10 PIM

That's not the best way to judge PBs defensive effectiveness at all.

Please... Bergeron is on his way to get 25p and a -3 this year. Is he a shutdown D? 2-way players gotta have some offense too. Barkov is playing with a 90yr old and 3rd liners. Barkov carries Jagr, not the other way around. He is still putting up good numbers while facing the opponents best players all day long. Kesler is 2nd line C. He faces easier opponents than Getzlaf and Kesler is the true opponent for Selke as of today. Kopitars year is also an disappointment, so I wouldnt put him as a Selke-candidate either. Bergeron has been the best 2-way player in the last 10yrs, but this year is different. If Barkov was Canadian he would be the frontrunner easily...

Koivu is a disgrace. Other than face-offs, and generally tilting the ice towards opponents end he is a shell of his former self. He was better seven years ago despite the +/- stats saying otherwise.

Barkov is the best #1 center of the Finns at the moment.
