Really hope Jesse is alright. Hopefully Drake is coming back sometime soon its been like a month since he first went down and like no information or timeline has been given. Seems very Klefbomesque.

Hasn't been any info on any of the injuries though, and when it occurred it sounded like they said it was a hip issue which can take some time to heal. Probably a muscle strain or hip sprain which can easily take 4-6 weeks. I think you're just thinking that way because he was exciting in preseason and we're eager to see what we have in him.

I'm really frustrated with the lack of news on these injuries. We've been decent lately but we'd be sooo much better if we were 100% healthy and I'm really hoping we get healthy really soon.

Yup, Gryba's being exposed as the #7 he is, and Benning is being exposed for the raw rookie he is that still need a good season of development in the AHL.

We should hopefully though be getting back a bunch of guys in a bunch. I would expect Davidson, Hendricks, and Caggiula can't be too far off, and Kassian and Russell should both hopefully be back soon.

Benning got exposed last game, he's be pretty good besides that night. He does need development, but it's like he's a fish out of water everynight.

And I keep seeing this "Gryba's exposed" stuff from some of you and I don't see it. He's played very well, considering his role, and he's been a solid NHL player most nights. Having deficiencies in his game isn't the same as "being exposed", he's been quiet good and deserves more credit, honestly.

From Stauffer:

-Kassian and Russell not on the ice today for practice
-Hendricks skating, said he looked like he was another week away at minimum
-Caggiula starting to skate again
-Davidson still out
-Pakarinen a ways away

Lowetide stated that Russell may play tomorrow.

Fleming in a video interview yesterday that players will be sent down here to Bako sooner then all expected.

We did sign two PTOs yesterday, but Beck was a healthy scratch in the last NHL game

We desperately need Russell back. Benning is being exposed, and it's understandable he's a rookie. We've seen some good flashes, and he might be a good PP option down the road too but he's not ready.

Benning needs to be in the AHL as soon as Russell is back.

I don't understand the Gryba shots. Gryba has been solid on the 3rd pairing with Nurse. Him and Darnell are also the 1st pairing on the PK. Nurse and Gryba have been outstanding on the PK and a major reason why we have a top 5 PK in the league and are above 90%.

Never argued Benning hasn't looked good overall and had his good moments, was just saying he's not NHL ready and there's much better Dmen at this point in time that are injured. He's done a great job filling in compared to what we're usually forced to call up.

As for Gryba, sure he's ok in a PK/bottom pairing role, but he doesn't excel in it. There's only one play he knows how to make in his own zone and its ring it around the boards, regardless of how much time he has. It always leads to either an icing, or a failed easy zone clear. I appreciate what he brings in front of the net and down low in his physical game, but he does get exposed by the deficiencies in his game which are his terrible foot speed, and his inability to make a pass. The number of passes he's thrown into Nurse's skates with little to no pressure is simply astounding. My point is, when everyone is healthy he's not a starting Dman, and wouldn't be on the majority of teams in the NHL.

Gryba has done pretty good imo. Consider that he's only even in the lineup as injury replacement. He rarely has sequences like what Benning has had, good or bad. I like Gryba's boring, safe hockey. Gryba's physical presence is a big plus as well. We can consider moving him to 7th D spot when Davidson and Russell return, but to me he's doing a very good job so far with Nurse, and maybe even helping Nurse assert himself.

You're correct, I caught that after I'd posted but forgot to update my post. Thanks.

With him having an 'upper body' injury though, him skating doesn't necessarily mean he's all that close to returning yet. Hopefully we'll get more clarity on his status soon.

He's done a fine job filling in, there's no question. But you're going to get burned and hemmed in some nights if he's in your lineup for 75-80 games in a year. When Davidson and Russell are back there is no question that he goes back to the press box. Both of those players are just far better than him at every aspect of the game except for physical play, and with the way Nurse and Larsson are throwing their weight around (and they do it much more responsibly than Gryba) there's just no need for him in the lineup when everyone's healthy.

I'm not hating on Gryba or anything. He was signed to be a #7/8 and thats what he is, keeping his head above water while 2 of our top 6 D are injured.

They said Hendricks was the closest to returning. Sounds like Davy and Drake could still be a couple weeks away.

Odds are it's Hendricks as it's a forward going down vs. Benning or Simpson.

He moderately replaces Kassian in the lineup, but the question becomes who comes out?

Lander or Letestu? as Hendricks preforms the exact same specialist role

Slepyshev or Pulju? As they're the most inexperienced forwards. But they do bring a dimension Hendricks can't.

With how well Pitlick's looked moving up in the roster, I'd be willing to give him the spot Pulju and Slept were competing for, and roll with a Hendricks-Lander-Letestu line, even if that's likely to be as slow as molasses...

That forward boat's going to become even more crowded once Pakman and Caggiula get back.

From the Oilers site, Davidson had this to say:

"Things have gone really well over the last couple of weeks here," he said. "I felt I was able to get into practice here over the last few days. That's a good sign that things are moving forward. I think it's safe to say within a week or weeks kind of thing

Sounds like he could be back within the next couple weeks.
