Any interest in Rust? Swiss Army knife player, so smart and the sense to play in most any situation, back to back 20+ goal seasons. PPG last year. Owed one more year at 3.5M, but I think he would commit longer term at a very reasonable number.

He's practically a foundational player, so the Pens arent going to give him away for nothing. But in the event of another early playoff exit, I could see him being cashed in on if a full retool is the preferred option.
I’d rent him for that last season of his deal for the Avs 2021 1st.

I’d rent him for that last season of his deal for the Avs 2021 1st.

If the Pens have a substantial run of any kind, then I'm almost sure they will try to extend his contract (he's up the same summer Malkin and Letang turn UFA and he's a guy who is very near and dear to the franchise's hearts). But if it's another playoff flameout, and with it a change in coach, I would definitely consider something around that.

The way he has stepped up and tailored his game to fit with stars like Malkin and Crosby, he would probably do the same damn thing with MacKinnon and thrive. And even if he didnt he didnt mesh on a scoring line, he's a coach's dream and an "all situations" kind of player.

How much of a pay cut is he willing to take to become "inexpensive"?
Avs have nothing to give in order to get that "inexpensive top 6 F"

Likes of Bowers and bototm pairing d-man like Graves are not going to cut it....

Their best bet is to wait til UFA and hope someone's willing to accept a shit contract for a year and hope he pans out... Otherwhise Avs prospect pool is too thin and their picks too bad to get what Avs fans are asking for

Drouin’s personal issues of career ending might be cap exempt (someone confirm)?

Compher Hat Trick this evening already outscored Drouin’s goal total for the season. AVs offer is already generous, doubt Drouin could get a better offer.
You miss the point. Compher is a overpaid scrub. Habs would have zero interest- they would have to buy him out...

The Habs /Avs do not make good trade partners.

Compher is the top PKing forward (by TOI/GP - minimum 20 games) on the 8th best PK in the league, and has more goals than all but 5 of the Habs forwards, despite getting 4th line ES minutes. Why would you buy him out instead of Byron?

Habs are paying 14 million for the goalie position. If you think 3.5 is a lot for Compher, Marc Bergevin says "hold my beer!"

And goalie isn't even the end of it.

I would buy both out!

I think you’re right about UFA. Avs will sign a ring chaser to a one year Avs friendly deal. Several guys would look at that. The Avs are a destination franchise like Tampa. They’ll have their pick of the litter.

That way they can keep excellent young RHD prospects like Helleson and Barron in the system. Keep forwards Sampo Ranta, Foudy and Beaucage in the pipeline. Staple guys like Newhook and Bryam into key major roles and Timmins into the permanent line-up. Then bring in Annunen in as a backup goalie. What an incredible franchise. What options for a team already sporting the best defender in the NHL, top power C and loaded depth.

Oh yeah. 2018 1st round pick Kaut is about PPG in the AHL (scored again last night) and we got your boy Shane Bowers too.

Depends on if your GM can value his players correctly. Which is dubious as he lets Danault and Tatar walk into UFA. While he’s tied up Drouin with term. Danault would look nice in an Avs sweater as a UFA signing.

Habs will be in trouble when Toffoli’s lucky shooting % regresses back down to his 10% career average.

Ranta, Foudy, B3aucage, Bowers, Barrob... all dime a dozen prospects lol. Habs have a ton of them like Fleury, Brooks, Teasdale, Fairbrother etc...

And GL getting that "cheap" top 6 guy. Even Hoffman signed for 1 year @ 4.5M, thats whay you'll also have to pay

He would heh, ubfortunately Avs won't be able to sifn him to the 6M$ he'll ask for!

Tatar ane Danault will be back in a Habs sweatter, we have more theb enough space with Drouin and Allen / Chiarot out

None of that makes sense.
Habs /Avs do not make good trade partners. Compher is an overpaid scrub that the Habs would have zero interest in. None of what you said refutes that.

A bit outside the box, but what about Copp? He looked very good playing T6 this year and it’s obvious he can produce. His time in Winnipeg is limited I fear with his pending UFA coming. Would still be cheap with his new deal, it would be in the US and on a perennial contender and Colorado has plenty of assets that would fit Winnipeg’s needs. One of the best 2 way forwards in the league.

Good cheap depth. Barron is better than any of yours from that list. He’s same tier as Guhle. He’s doing great in the AHL after having a great QMJHL season after playing for Canada’s WJC team.

Sampo ranta was the second leading scorer in the NCAA behind Caufield, a guy you probably regard highly.

What major sweetener are you adding to Drouin to shed that albatross? Danault will be playing anywhere he wants. Defensively able center. He’ll have plenty of suitors.
