Caverns of Draconis
#1- No one
#2- EJ
#3- No one
#4- Barrie/Hejda
#5- Wilson/Elliott/Hunwick
#6- Zanon/O'Brien

With the hope that under a new coach EJ moves up to being a bonafide #1 (finds his offensive game again), Barrie or Elliott moves up to being a good 2nd pairing guy (~40 points, weak to average defensively). Then the rest are pretty much on the decline. Wilson could maybe improve, but he gets hurt before he can ever string together a bunch of good games.

Yea I would say this is pretty accurate.

Hopefully we add Jones this summer and he can step into the #3 whole next year and eventually become the #1 guy. Although at the same time EJ with a new coach might be able to become that #1 guy for us again as well.

Barrie might be able to be a #3 for us next year to. His offense already is that of a #2 Dman and if his Defense can take another step forward he can be a #3 for us.

How would you all rate your defenseman for next year only (not potential, just how good they will be this coming year).

I know EJ is first, but I don't know a whole lot about Hejda, Wilson, Zanon, Barrie, Elliot, or Hunwick.

Jan Hejda is the best, Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie have potential to be the best. Ryan Wilson is good when healthy (which is never), Stefan Elliott showed lots of upside this year. Greg Zanon was flat out bad, while Matt Hunwick was surprisingly good.

In no way, shape or form is Hejda better than EJ.

EJ <-- Under achiever
Barrie <-- Woohoo
Hejda <-- meh but effective
Jones <-- David or Seth?
Elliott <-- Woohoo (Adrian Dater's rookie of the year!)
Wilson <-- One legged beat down specialist
Siemens <-- He wins just because he could beat up almost everyone on this list. Woohoo!
Hunwick <-- So fast, so prone to turn overs at the worst time, no offensive IQ or shot, and our best defender this year?
SOB <-- Never plays
Beaupre <-- People are more excited about him than I am.
O'Reilly <-- :sarcasm: ?
Cummer <-- super fast, super suxors
Koci <-- What happened to that? He was good for the one or two games he played defense. Another future #1 under Sacco...
Quincey <-- hate
Howler <-- who the hell is this?
Clark <-- Deserves a spot down here as well.
Zanon <-- hate

Lol

Unless we get two or three new defenseman this summer. Some of our supposed depth D-man will have to play big minutes.

Hunwick handled it decent. Alot better than Zanon, O'Byrne etc did.

Hejda was te most steady, but EJ's defensive game, before his concussion was heads and shoulders above anyone else on the team, it's not even funny.

Yup, this has been my thought.

Downie-Duchene-PAP
Lando-ROR-Jones
McGinn-Staz-Sgarby/FA
McLeod-Mitchell/FA-Vincour/Olver/Mitchell/Bordy/Malone

That's actually the most solid lineup I've seen. Surprised I haven't thought of that. Jones will score beside Radar and Landy.

no he's not, like even close, like in any way, like in any universe.

EJ is our best defender, Hejda is #2 but will likely be surpassed by Barrie next season, maybe potentially even Jones if he develops well.

What makes Erik Johnson better than him? His offensive production? His steady defensive play?

Wow, these kids are what, 10 years olds? That's sick. As a dad I would have been on the ice getting my kid out of there. :amazed: Soooooo disgraceful.:shakehead

Props to the coaches for getting out there and telling their kids to stop, but they should have done it a few minutes earlier.

I just posted this in the Caps thread, but since all the Caps fans think they need to do something big and the consensus is leaning towards moving Green. What about the Avs moving Stastny for Green? Avs get a clear #1 defenseman, Caps get a top 6 forward who can skate on their top line and give both Green and Stastny the change of scenery that they both need. I know it will never happen but I think it could work out well for both teams.

If Green was a left shot I would be for it. As it sits the Avs have EJ, Barrie, Elliott, and possibly Jones as right shots on defense.

Sadly the best trade partners for Stastny are in the same division or.... Toronto. Toronto has Gunnarsson or Gardiner as LD that can be part of what is coming back. Plus they could send back somebody for winger depth like Kulemin or picks. Or you could have something around JVR for Stastny.

For the record, I don't think the Avs should trade Stastny, but if they do it should be next trade deadline.

I could see Anaheim come calling this summer too. Something around Sbisa and one of the top forward prospects. Not my favorite deal, but they could lose Selanne and Koivu this summer and their secondary scoring would take an even bigger hit.

Seriously, what the hell took them so long? There were like swarms of kids going after one guy a couple times. I like boxing, and fighting in hockey and all, but that was just a bunch of kids learning how to be bullies.

That said my favorite parts were at :30 when the ref accidentally clocked the kid in the face when he tried to push him away, and :50 when a kid tried to superman another kid and almost broke his neck, and amputated both legs of his teammate at the same time. Then immediately started getting pummeled by a kid on the other team.

I could too, but I could also see their internal cap stopping them from taking on his salary. I also could see them using Hiller as their trade piece to get a #2C and I think there would be plenty of team interested in that deal (but not the Avs).

i love Stastny but i would ship him out on the first thing smoking for that deal. ok fine, i would get a little greedy and see if i could get them back for forking over that #11 pick for Varly but still.
