I have been waiting for this coach since Demers was fired by the Emperor, Ronald Corey.

We have had sporadic , limited success , a year here and there with subsequent coaches, but for those all too rare exceptions, our teams have been mediocre at best. Teams built by coaches who micro managed players and insisted on all of them being square pegs. Defence one and only, always counter attack, non possession and FOR GOD's SAKE DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE. Get out there AND PLAY NOT TO LOSE.

Didnt work, this play style. And yeah, BORING.

Martin , Therrien , Julien and Ducharme. Good riddance all of you and may your approach never come back.

I know we will find fault with MSL. But it is fresh air to allow players to actually use their judgement and give their skill the best chance to develop and impact games. Play to win. Mistakes will be made, but learn from it, and PLAY TO WIN. Awesome.

The biggest win HUGO may have, is extending MSL.

Play loose to make offensive plays and let the D just slide... Fans get entertained and we play .500 hockey or worse. Everybody wins.
Seriously, I know they don't have any pressure now, but I hope they learn from these good games that it's impossible in this league to keep a lead if you don't put offensive pressure on the other team, and that's especially true when you play against teams that have nothing to lose anymore.

Holding leads requires a good team with less soft types. Ask the Leafs

Dreger said on TSN last night that the Habs would love for Marty to come back, but that the timing isn’t perfect or ideal for him personally, with him having a young family and all. So basically it was implied that Marty will have a decision to make here, if he wants to make a long-term commitment.

Ultimately I’d be shocked if he doesn’t return. The relationship he’s building with some of the young players, and you just get the feeling that this is his team now. Would suck to have his tenure end prematurely.

Those consecutive explosions everyone just heard were each our past coaches and MB's heads exploding in succession.

Here's MB hearing MSL

Marty has been more than a head coach — he’s been an enabler of trades. As Gorton said on TSN690, Marty orchestrated the turnaround of virtually everyone upon his arrival, which made it easier to make trades.

Dreger don't know that much. The real truth is between HuGo and MLS. MSL is a die hard Habs fan and he's done well.

They basically agreed to see him coach for the rest of the season and then talk when the season ends. It's possible that HuGo approached him for an extension and MSL said, lets finish the season like our 1st plan.

I'd be shocked as well if he was not our coach next year. But this is new for MSL as a coach in the NHL and the time required is substantial. I just can't see him walking away at this stage

Aren't his kids all teenagers with two of them in college? If anything this is the right time for him. Youngest would be eligible for the Q the year after next.

Maybe he should also coach the coaching staff about PP.
Maybe he can get Markov to come back and QB. The team has some options up front, but they are really lacking a big play driver at forward and a QB on D. Suzuki and Caufield are fine but most of the other options aren't great.

He’s 43 and he hasn’t played hockey for the past 2 seasons.. We can find better

Markov would probably still get more PP points than anyone the habs have on D, but I agree it's not a real option. Unless Norlinder makes some big stridges the habs are really missing a QB. Mailloux has tools but I'm not sure he has the hockey sense to run an NHL PP well. I suppose they can always bring in another specialist who doesn't really defend.
