Pretty much this. I don't think its a coincidence, that when healthy our goalies have been dynamite. Backstrom is the only one that wasn't, and he's had that ab issue all year.

Our D doesn't allows few shots, and few quality chances 5v5. They are the reason our goalies have looked great for the most part.

What is funny is most of them get hurt in practice/warm-ups more than they do during the games...

Kemps was hurt in LA IIRC
Backstrom last year in Chicago, Game 1

I think backs last year was a straw that broke the camels back kind of situation.

The Wild cannot use a compliance buyout on Backstrom. He was signed after the new CBA.

If he was talking about the compliance buyout, there is no lingering cap. What he's showing is the regular buyout's cap cost for the team in future years on Backstrom's deal.

I believe Bäcks could still hold some value, if he makes a good recovery.

Why not..

LTIR Harding
Sign Bryz to a 2-3 year deal
Start the season with Bryz/Bäcks tandem
Showcase Bäcks a bit, trade him for whatever we can get
Continue with Bryz/Kuemper tandem.

Is there a regular buy-out window? As in, could we wait until August/September when he might be healthy?

Nope. Buyout period is 48 Hours after Stanley cup is awarded to June 30th. NHLPA insists that the window be prior to free agency so that no one is left hanging September 1st with all the teams filled.

I feel like Backstrom would have to put on quite a show for a team to want to trade for a 36 year old goaltender with injury history who is on a 35+ contract that won't expire until after the 2015-16 season. Giving up assets and taking on those cap risks might not be the smartest move.

Although... Garth Snow :naughty:

That's only two seasons though. I think he could still net a late pick from a team that needs a solid backup.

That's not even a big risk.

I guess it depends on the team. A team close to the floor might take the chance, but again, I feel he'd have to show that he's back to his old form.

Well if he was back to his old form, we wouldn't be talking about buying him out/trading him.
