On another note, count me in to the Nick Holden fan club.

I'll eat my words later if I have to, but this guy is potential Top-4 quality. He played big minutes in the playoffs and was one of Colorado's most poised players with the puck on his stick - you knew he wasn't going to panic and make a mistake.

His offense was also clutch - 3/1 in 7 playoff games and 10/25 in 54 regular season games. I won't be surprised if his 2014-2015 season ice time is more similar to his 2013-2014 post-season ice time (22:09) than his regular season ice time (18:40).

I dont ever see him being a top 4, but a FANTASTIC 3rd pairing guy who can step up when injuries happen.

Sbisa has dropped of the face of the earth as he cant metally play at an NHL level, I wouldnt trade for him. I also think Steve Ott is overrated, although the Avs do need to improve their bottom 6.

Greg Sherman?

Making Starbucks runs, picking up Roy's dry cleaning, caddying for Sakic, walking Kroenke's bulldogs...

Sherman is great with contracts. Keeping him for them alone is worth it. Although his role with the team is heavily dimished, he still did a good job making this team the way it is today even when everyone wanted his head.

sbisa played well at the Olympics IIRC and would be fixed by foote I think.

Sbisa is just a player I wouldnt give up much for as his value has dropped of the face of the earth.

The Avs do need to improve their bottom 6 and should probably add a physical Dman but I wouldnt really go after the same players you have mentioned. I think physicallity is less the issue and more players who are better defensively and improve the PK. Although a player like Komarov could solve all of those issues.

I agree, Grabovski & Kulemin should be prime targets if Stastny walks. Especially since there are rumors they want to play together, and we know the Avs are Grabo's favorite team. He'd be a perfect third line center, especially with Kulemin on his wing.

(I actually like Goc better (Cheaper, and a better value), but if Grabovski is required to get Kulemin. I'm all about it...)

Edit : I like this better though..

This would be actually pretty good, but I doubt we get Kulemin and Grabovski. I wish. :( We lose Stastny, but this gives us WAY MORE depth, that's the good thing, but I doubt Grabovski would like to play #3 center though? He wouldn't get that much ice-time, but maybe around 15-17 min per game max.

There was a article with a rumor about them wanting to sign with the same team. I'd personally rather have Goc and Kulemin, but if they want to play together it's easy to take both. Also there has been direct quotes from Grabovski saying the Avs are his favorite team and he would love to play here.

That's where all these Grabovski/Kulemin ideas are coming from anyways.

Grabovski's a good player if used correctly, but I don't think he's the right fit on a 3rd line for the Avs. Kulemin is but that's because he's a better defensive player.

Weaver and Greene would be amazing pick ups

I would call neither "amazing". I think that word has gotten very loosely used.

I'd call them adequate pick ups. Not what I would want, (especially Greene), just adequate.

My defensive wishlist:

1) Matt Niskanen
2) Anton Stralman
3) Mark Fayne
4) Mike Weaver
5) Matt Greene

Avs should be making a serious run at at least two of those guys in the off season.

No cares on the RHD thing. They are a clear upgrade whatever hand they may be, and the first 3 I listed would make our top 4, so are not bottom pairing whatsoever. And either of Greene or Weaver is an upgrade on Guenin, at the very least in the experience/leadership/grit department. This a playoff team now, we need to start building like it.

They should. Niskanen is the only one of those guys that have played the left side. Other than that, EJ has never been on the left side. Barrie started the year there and was so bad he ended up being a healthy scratch. A defenseman to play the left side is needed.

Matt Greene is horribly overrated and Weaver is a 38 year old journeyman. They aren't really upgrades. I would love Stralman though.

^ Too big a contract for Jamie McGinn

Was thinking that. But i wouldnt be surprised to see one of the the other guys get an extra half mil. So it kind of balances out.

Should also clarify that if Vancouver does not want that many youngsters then go with 1st/Siemens/Hishon or PaP for Kesler. And then take the rest 1st/Elliott/Hishon or PaP for a guy like Hamhuis (top pairing, great defender, can play the right side, not too expensive). And if it takes a little more cap space than the 4.5mil Hamuis costs to get said Dman then count out Hainsey to free up the extra money. And sign another bottom pair/depth Dman in his place at 1/1.5 Mil, preferable someone that plays ahead of Guenin (Diaz, Weaver, Stoner maybe).

You better really like that Agozzino-Smith-Everberg pairing and you'll be seeing it on the Avs because with that deal you've left them with literally no other prospects.

Kesler will be a UFA in 2 years. He could walk and we'll have absolutely nothing left after gutting the cupboard and setting it on fire.

By all accounts Kesler loves Denver (along with the Avs) and wouldn't be an issue to re-sign... but there would be a concern of him not aging well.

Still is an awful lot to give up.
