If the Oilers fire Chia or McLellan, who should replace them?

I would try to get Vigneault, in the event of his firing. Give him Coach and GM and he will quickly chase Cups.
They can have him

He isn’t gonna win them any cups though

Also he would be a terrible fit for the Oilers. His systems relies on speed and a world class goaltender doing the bulk of the lifting, both of which the Oilers lack.

Literally anyone except for Bergevin can replace Chiarelli and it'd be an improvement. Worst GM in Oilers history.

Hfboards is a joke because of posts like this. Steve Tambellini? MacTavish? Lowe?

Half the shit you guys blame chia for are a direct result of the morons in charge before he came around

MacT did a better job honestly.

Yeah dude, he did a great job telegraphing his moves and getting owned by experienced GMs. He did a great job letting Petry walk for nothing.

Basically the only good thing MacTavish did during his time as Oilers gm was trade Paajarvi for Perron

Tambo and MacT were bad because they sat on their hands and did nothing. Lowe did a great job building solid teams on a miniscule budget. Chiarelli has consistently squandered assets and given out crippling contracts to mediocre players. No one in Oilers history has done so little with so much.

The Oilers are a drastically better team under Chia and he made some great moves last year... Team made the playoffs and won a round.

MacTavish f***ing hired Eakins dude enough said

The team is better because of McDavid. Remove him and this roster is no better than any of MacT's teams.

If you say so. The old dcore of Cam Barker and Nikitin with Eakins behind the bench is clearly just as good as the team now sans McDavid

You think the Russell-Gryba pairing is any better?

Chiarelli's team has the luxury of having the best player in the world and they're still on pace to finish with 64 points.

Uhhh yes, drastically better. Did you watch the Oilers back then?

And what last season doesn't matter? This year's team is riddled with the flu, injury to Sekera, lost Draisaitl early in the season and is having confidence issues.

Last year they over achieved, this year theure under achieving. They'll fall somewhere in the middle...

The world isn't ending guys its okay

This team seriously lacks talent other than McD, Draisaitl, RNH, and Nurse/Larson. A roster like this is going to have to go hard core defensive minded. Probably Sutter , a Multiple Stanley Cup coach, might be able to turn things around. It will be boring hockey though for a couple of years.

Last season we had insane luck with injuries and almost every player had career highs. The team has come back down to earth and sucked even before the flu bug hit. They're better than 3rd last in the league but not making the playoffs with McDavid in his last ELC year is unacceptable.

The thing that bugs me the most is that Chiarelli is still refusing to take questions from the media. At least Tambo and MacT had the balls to face the fans when they f***ed up.

mclellan is a great coach but the team is not listening to him. they are standing around and giving zero effort. Cant get rid of the players so make a huge shakeup and remove the coach imo. sucks but he would find work in 2 weeks. has to be done this team is too good to be like this

Those press conferences didn't help anything. If anything it hurt the team and probably cost Lowe and MacT their jobs after fans revolted following one of those pressers.

And when did MacT and Tambo have press conferences 20 games into the season?

When were MacT and Tambo the GMs of "cup contenders"?

I'd say only Tambo was worse than Chiarelli. Lowe was probably the best of them all; acquired more valuable defenseman than the other 3 combined.

I know it’s not gonna happen, but imagine Tim Murray trying to accelerate them to the cup. Yamamoto, Puljujärvi and a bunch of picks traded for Dustin Brown and Toffoli week 1. Offers Tavares a 14x7 contract.

Getting rid of these clowns and bringing in somebody new to run the club does nothing to solve the underlying issues at play which keep Edmonton from ever climbing out of the basement. It all starts with ownership, and as long as their owner is some crusty 80's fanboy they are going to be forever skating uphill. Katz is the one who didn't fully comprehend why Chiarelli was fired in Boston and let him do the same thing to his club. Is it Chiarelli's fault that he carried on his tradition of signing anchor contracts and trading young star players? It's what he does, how can you be mad that he did it? I don't blame Mclellan either, the guy is in a situation where he has young inexperienced players who don't know what winning consistently involves but they have all been rewarded with fat contracts as if they already do know how to play winning hockey. If Chiarelli and McLellan are responsible for anything, it's putting all the pressure on McDavid when he shouldn't have to be in that position. Trading away guys who can help him lead and shoulder the offensive burden while at the same time slapping the C on him put the kid in a no win situation. Just look at how Toronto handles Matthews, the guy has help and he isn't expected to be the man every game even though everyone knows he can be. McDavid could use that sort of buffer. I would blame them for the handling of McDavid, but the rest of it is on Katz. He's the guy who needs replacing.
