If MAF's cup final play does not improve and vegas wins does he still win Smythe?

MAF has had an extraordinary playoff run so far, but he hasn't really been very good in the last two games IMO. If he continues playing the way he has but Vegas ends up winning, will/should he still win the Conn Smythe trophy?

Who would be the other options on Vegas? Marchessault? Obviously this will depend on how the series plays out, but I haven't really heard any other names thrown around.

I think a goalie is allowed to have some off games even an off series, especially without any banner playoffs from any of the Vegas skaters. I think it still goes to him.

People have rightfully or not placed a lion share of the reason for their success on his shoulders the entire year and playoffs, it is too much of a narrative at this point.

If Vegas wins he’s gonna get it barring something crazy. As in he gives up 6 gaa and below .800 S% and they’re winning games 8-7. Even then Marchessault would need like 15 more points down the stretch.

Even if he finishes the series the way he’s started (sub .900 and 3.0+) he’s still gonna have a .930+ S% and 2ish gaa which would still be a stellar playoff performance on the whole. That’s how good he was through the WCF. Less than 1% chance somebody else gets it if Vegas wins.

However I think the crowd saying that he might win it even if the Caps take the cup have quieted considerably.

Agreed. Smythe is for player most valuable to his team during the playoffs. If Vegas wins it's hard to argue for someone more valuable to Vegas' playoff success than Fleury.

If he continues his sv% from the past 2 games...
and the series ends in 6 games...
... he will finish the playoffs with about a .928 overall.

That, plus the fact that people will end up remembering him making some big save or another in a Cup winning effort, will probably still get him the Smythe. Vegas doesn't have anybody that's going above-and-beyond offensively, and Fleury should still have the best numbers of any goalie who played a significant number of games, plus having won the Cup.

The Smythe at this point is Flower's to lose. This series has been wild so far, all Flower needs to do to seal it is to steal a game in the Finals. Do that and it's absolutely his, no matter who hoists the Cup.

Didn't Giguere win it in a loss? Maybe Ovi could win it even in a Caps loss situation if Fleury is lit up

For today standarts .870 sv% in SCF is appallingly bad.

His save percentage will go up in the series. A lot harder to boost it back into the .940’s one you fall out of that territory with the overall sample size this playoffs, but he can put together some good games and keep it around where it is. A few really bad games and it drops substantially. That being said, you can’t reward their team, who are all MVP’s, so Fleury may as well represent them if they win.

Somelike like Marchessault would have to have an incredible series to surpass him, he’s the biggest reason they made it this far.

On the other side if Ovi somehow managed to score 2 goals per game from here on out and Vegas gives up a shit ton of goals but still end up winning without a real standout I could see Ovi having a small chance of getting it.

As long as he keeps playing decently from here on out it's his to lose.

yes, because the Conn Smythe is for Playofff MVP, not just the finals. Unless JAM scores like 10 more points during the finals or something

Do people just stat-watch? He's played really well in general especially in that last game. The guy's ability to see through traffic is some of the best in the league. I'm not gonna take away the Conn Smythe because he had one bad game and then a second one where he couldn't stand on his head. Have to see how the rest of the playoffs play out but he's been better than Holtby in general for me.

Ovi is not even the highest scoring player for WSH, so there is no reason why he would win it over MAF or Kuznetsov at this point.
