Do you wonder the same with Yzerman when he extended an RFA Bertuzzi?

Yes.

It'd be an unusual oversight for a generally competent manager in Yzerman but a consistent oversight for a generally incompetent manager like Benning.

But the same standard applies to both.

I know it's still in the 'rumor phase' as to why Hamonic isn't at camp.

But if it's vaccinated related, you have to shake your head. COVID absolutely felled this team last year, and probably cost them their season. And it wasn't just the players who got seriously sick. It was staff, coaches and even family members who went down with the virus.

Having gone through that and experienced it first-hand with the Canucks last season, how could anyone in their right mind be an 'anti--vaxxer'? Confirms I guess that some players aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

RFA vs UFA meant that Yzerman only had to QO Bertuzzi and not actual negotiate a new deal with him until he agreed to get the vaccine. But, Bert had arbitration rights, so was guaranteed a contract. Coming off an injury plagued season, so unlikely to get anything more than his $3.5 mill QO. But, yzerman gave him a 2 year deal at $4.75 mill per. Yzerman had time, but ultimately, Bert was going to get a contract, but Yzerman gave him an extra year.

Hamonic a UFA. Doubt you can stipulate that condition into the contract.

Think we all expected the players to get vaccinated after what they went through.

Unless maybe he believes that since he got Covid, that he has the anti-bodies in his system already.

Good points. Hamonic had leverage as UFA, but IMO getting vaccinated would be serious enough that if he wouldn't commit to vaccination then sure, let him walk, he's arguably overpaid as it is.

If Hamonic refuses to get vaccinated, can the Canucks claim he is neglecting his contract and regain that $3MM in cap space???

Friendly reminder the Canucks played to a 51 point pace before their break and covid outbreak. They finished with 50 points.

The Canucks season was compounded by covid, but it wasn’t the reason they stunk.

How dare you speak the truth and point out the fact that the team was destined for a top 10 pick before the CV outbreak!

That happens to be one of JB and AQ's best excuses for another failed season!

They were 17th in the league after their last game against the Jets, before the covid break..

....and were due to have an entire week off....

Gillis had a role to play as well, if he had not left empty cupboards we wouldnt have had to trade assets to get that 5th round pick in the 2015 which was used on Adam Gaudette - the guy who brought covid to the team last year

Thanks Gillis!

You are missing the narrative tho! They were on a role just before the covid exposure to the team!

They got flattened by Winnipeg two games in a row, lost in a shootout to Montreal...
But prior to that they won 4 games!!!!

Dont look into the games trust me!

3 of them were shootouts/ot and even two of them were against bottom feeding Ottawa

Bit of a misleading stat. Canucks played a lot more games than plenty of teams around the league. They were 25th in point percentage at the stoppage. That week off likely leads to them plummeting down the standings as the rest of the league catches up on the GP margin.
