Jul 28, 2021Luke SchennDSigned as Free Agent Two-year contract:
TBL38224251000000434.7

[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Is it really Schenn?

His cap hit at 3 smill really Ducks us, since Covid and not being unaccinated does still COUNT on cap hits. So In order to sign Pete and Huggy Bear we can't take on more money. Who of the above in red do you think can replace 6'2 stay at home to somewhat decent point pro D if he remains firm on this stance ?

Can we trade him? Well depends since Jet Black gave him a limited NTC, dumb dumb dumb! Anyways let me know your thoughts.

I'm assuming Schenn would be the most likely if Hamonic wasn't going to play. I'd rather have both Rathbone and Juolevi playing though to see what they have, at least if they're going to play as well as Schenn or another replacement, and move a guy over to the right side. I wouldn't be against trying Hughes on the right. A lot of good puck movers can and have played their off sides, because it opens up passing options for them. As well, Hughes actually can get in trouble from forecheckers pressuring him trying to carry the puck out of the zone, and it causes him to curl back with the puck and regroup, suppressing the play and sometimes causing him to turn it over. He probably wouldn't have to do that as often if he's on his offside, because he has more ice to move into on his forehand to make an initial deke and lose the forechecker. You don't usually want your defensemen making plays into the middle in your own zone, but Hughes has the skill to do it.

Honestly, I think it just impacts our depth more than anything. Right now, assuming Hughes signs, our D consists of OEL, Hughes, Myers, Poolman, Schenn, Rathbone, Juolevi, and Hunt. Then comes the Brady tier of guys. Where would you rank Hamonic in that D core and is he THAT much better from the guys you ranked below him if any?

If Hamonic refuses the jab, he'll get put on the trade block for a US based team. The suspension would only be for US road trips and we can't plan the yearly cap hit based on planned suspensions. We have to take his full cap hit on and bank the suspension days for later in the year, because it's a day-to-day cap. If he remains, he's still eligible for 41 home games plus the road games in Canadian cities, he just can't cross the border due to 2 week quarantine. So either we use his suspension relief at the deadline, or find a place for him.

You don't bank cap savings if you are operating in LTIR, which the Canucks will be the moment the two RFA's sign.

That tucker poolman deep dive analysis gave me some optimism. Myers, Poolman, Schenn.

It messes up our depth but doesn't change things dramatically.

It is speculative to assume he's an anti-vaxxer because he missed testing. He caught Covid once himself, watched his whole team catch it, and opted out of the bubble due to Covid concerns and an ill child. It seems a little out of character that this would be the guy who refuses a jab.

Benning has everything under control. Believe me. The D core is definitely better than last season. The Hughes and Pettersson contracts are very important and very close to being done.

Can someone catch me up on this? Is it clear that he's unvaccinated or is it just speculation?

For someone who stayed out of the bubble playoffs, this seems a bit off brand, no?

Drance tweeted this

so still somewhat speculation but it is substantiated by a media member.

could be he is just very late getting it though, nobody knows for sure.

Agree on all points. Merely the fact that he has a family member who is high risk, it seems illogical for him to not want the vaccine.

Well if he’s traded to the states he won’t see his kid for at least 7 months….. unless he relocates his family to the states.

that said It also gives us an extra 3 mill in cap space hopefully we can sign Quinn and Elias.

If this was written into his contract as grounds for termination, that would be the path to take, if true.

Obviously Benning just jumped into the team vaccine idea after Winnipeg with no other plan though, is my guess.

This is all assuming Hamonic didn't miss testing for other reasons.

Can we close this thread until we get a concrete reason for why he isnt at camp. Our team media has done guessing game way too many times and got burned for this to many times in the past year for this to have any legs
