Drance said it’s because he is currently unvaccinated. Said team won’t confirm, but that it’s as close to confirmed as it can be without the team saying it.

Is this why Hamonic isn't playing? I don't mind people refusing the vaccination, especially given how many Native Canadians are opting not to get it (potentially due to residential schools and mistrust of government) so I support people standing up for these marginalized peoples, but at the same time we all knew this was coming and it's interesting that such a pro-vaccine organization like Vancouver never even asked Hamonic what his plans were?

Damn, OEL is going to be earning his money this year (going to be piling on a ton of minutes I think) if Hamonic is out for a period of time.

Schmidt was allegedly "exposed" with supporting defenders like Edler & Hamonic.

Now OEL is going to have "The Poolman" & other depth guys to "help him out" (as well as carrying Hughes defensively).

He (OEL) might actually end up underpaid for the work he'll have to do.

I don't think he can opt out of the deal. He ll be suspended without pay and not count against the cap so this could help in the Pettersson and Hughes situation. However, as soon as he is fully vaccinated he d be back on the payroll which could the cause quite a difficult cap situation.

Around the league, a few players are coming out of the woodwork admitting they haven't been vaccinated. Tyler Bertuzzi is apparently willing to forgo $400,000 of his salary in Detroit, because he won't be able to cross the border to play games in Canada.

Unfortunately unless these players have been in cave for the last four months, they must have known than anyone associated with an NHL team, players, coaches, team personnel and office staff, would have to be vaccinated to continue working in the NHL. You can debate whether that's 'fair' or 'unfair', but those are the rules.

So the message is, if you want to continue making millions of dollars playing hockey for a living, you'll have to buck up and get vaccinated. It's a matter of 'life and death' for the population at large....which is a helluva lot more important than whether some journeyman d-man plays or not.

Schenn is fine as a depth D but Hamonic was expected to fill a top 4 role. No way is Schenn a top 4 guy now. That's a big downgrade
