Icings - 2014-15 season

I am going to try and keep track of which Flyers player was responsible for each icing this season as I could not find a site that already did this. I plan to update the totals for each player after each month of the season, if not more frequently.

Good...because it is patently obvious we have some very panicky players when faced with a hard and fast forecheck.

People liked MDZ's game but like you pointed out...he was guilty of some ill advised icings last night..including on the PP!

Last year the best I could find was Extra Skater which just told you who was on the ice when icings occur, which isn't that useful. If you look in the official game log they just say ICING when there's an icing, not whose stick it came off.

Ah, you'd think in this day of advanced stats it'd be out there. Are you going to count bad passes that get tipped out of reach before the red line on the passer or the player that tipped it?

He was ok compared to those two dumpsters on wheels Coburn and AMac but it irritated me when he iced the puck on our PP....it kind of clouded my opinion of his play.

You might want to be keen to distinguish "smart" icing plays though. Like when we're hemmed in our zone for the last minute of play or so, sometimes just getting it out is better than losing it to the opposing team again if there is no play to be made.

Mine too. Ive never seen anybody fling the puck blindly down the ice so often, even when unpressured.

There may be smarter icings but most of the time the person icing the puck is probably somewhat responsible for why they've been pinned so long they need to ice the puck, so I wouldn't feel bad for them.

There are different types of icing:

An OD who takes well calculated risks to attempt difficult passes that may result in odd men rushes might actually get away with it. It's a side effect of what he is asked to do to a certain degree.

A defensive D who struggles to clear the zone and causes icing in the worst possible situation hurts much more.
