From his 31 Thoughts...

"GM Marc Bergevin is determined not to make a panic move. Not a day goes by without an Alex Galchenyuk rumor, but, if he is dealt now, it is the ultimate in selling low - pennies on the dollar. Unless the organization simply wants to cut ties, that's not ideal. I do think they would move Andrew Shaw, potentially keeping some part of his salary. Shaw does have four more years at $3.9 million. Trading with term is not easy."

One of the worst contracts in the league. How surprising.

50% retained for future considerations. Sign me up. Okey maybe for a like 4th. Take Bouma back.

Heart and soul guy who is better than Bouma. At $1.95m? Upgrade.

It's not just that the contract is bad - it is - but IMHO they overpaid to acquire him as well.

Overpaying in acquisition cost is one thing, but overpaying him in years and dollars as well... eeesh.

If they retain or take back a contract they'd get something back. Otherwise hes a very expensive 3rd line player.

He's a good fit for a team lacking depth like Edmonton.

Andrew Shaw has a terrible contract but people here seriously overrate GM's. The Habs can easily fleece a team like the Oilers. Chiarelli is trying to create the Boston Bruins team that won the Cup despite having the best young player in the game.

If Bergevin is serious, he could get quite a lot for Shaw. GM's are dumb.

This is someone that Vegas should take a gander at. A pest for sure but not a complete waste of a roster spot.

Haha, no shit. I bet they'd love to but good luck without adding a pick, retaining salary or take a bad contract back.

How does Bergevin still have a job? He's terrible and the damage he's done might be worst than what Gainey and previous GMs did to that franchise.

He's not getting 2 2nds, one of which being Debrincat.

would mtl be interested in mathieu perrault? winnipeg could use a bottom-6 upgrade and kyle connor seems ready to be a top-6 guy.

idk if this is fair value or not;

shaw + fucale for perrault + 2nd?

or just

shaw + 2nd for perrault

Those two things generally go hand in hand. If you overpay to acquire an asset it gives all the leverage to the player and his agent. They can reach for the stars in contract talks and know they aren't risking anything since there's no way a team overpays for a player and then allows him to sit out without a contract.
