Saw George W Bush speak at PNC Arena this afternoon. It was like a time warp. Amazing how simply listening to a president speak can have that effect, because you heard their voice every day for 4-8 years during a particular period of life.

The germans had a lot of strategy right, in ww2,

I'm waiting for the inevitable shift into Crimea. The problem here is that ZSU is using their own blood, while RU is using "sepratists" Buryats and untermenschen instead of Muscovites. Ukraine will suffer years from this.

A goal for the US would be to decimate RU's ability to wage conventional war for a generation.

That’s a great point- Putin can keep feeding Chechens and Tartars into the UKR woodchipper for a while before he has to tap into the upper classes.

But that risks that Chechen warlord puppet of his going “you know what? If they can’t beat UKR why don’t we just declare independence again?”

Kadryov? lol. All putin has to do is send him another pair of Dolce & Gabbana combat boots, a new Mercedes G class, and a couple million rubles, and poof, no more snackbar urges. That dude is a massive, gaping tool, just like every other snackbar warlord. Not to mention, if Putin really started having problems with him, he'd probably become infected by some strange ionizing isotope.

Putin's misplay here, was thinking he could pour enough of southern russia's impoverished, low IQ snackbars and mongols into UKR for a bag of potatoes and 3000 ruble salaries to overrun ZSU. Oops. I don't think he will risk mobilization unless they push across the border to say, Belgorod. Will he do it for Crimea and Sevastopol and that juicy port? Let's find out... Because none of this should end until evert last inch of UA territory is liberated.

Nah. His puppet is already bought and paid for.

But his puppet's puppets? Not so much.

Gonna be a long few years in Transcaucasia, I think.

Doesn't really matter now. Even if brings in the varsity players to wake up the team, the JV squad already lost all the equipment. Unless the kids from Moscow or elsewhere also come with T-80/90 tanks like the minutemen came with their own muskets, they won't fare much better than the kids he already threw into that meat grinder.

Probably farther flung than that, too. It looks like he won't be able to meet his equivalent of NATO's article 4 with Armenia, so we might see a bunch of places that once feared Russian interventions start boiling over.

The varsity was the VDV, and the VDV had its ass kicked in multiple times. Christoph Grozev estimates that they lost 90% of their best paratroopers in the first month of the war. Hostomel was a disaster for them; they were supposed to be the shock troops that made Kiev a 3-day cakewalk, and UKR kicked the absolute shit out of them.

There is no more varsity, anywhere.

I watch maybe 30 mins of a standard news a year. Rest of it comes from trending memes and independent media like Tim Cast primarily.

The death by falling out of windows rate is about to increase dramatically in Russia

Been a while since we had a good defenestration, but polonium tea seems more his style.

Looks like Putin has expanded his repertoire; I'm guessing that he realized that polonium poising is too much a signature move. The following shows high ranking execs with links to Russia who have had unusual deaths in 2022. 2022 Russian businessmen mystery deaths - Wikipedia

That whole damn area is going to hell in a hand basket:

It wss reported of Putin's current China visit that Winnie the Pooh's commenting on Kazakhstan was somewhat curious and awkward for Putin. Sounded like China would back up Kazakhstan's position in any Russia-related debacle. Or something.

PSA: Kyrgystan is the green one, Kazakhstan is the bigger country north of it. Tajikistan is the one south of Kyrgystan. All of them border China.

Good ole Kyrgystan. I’ve been there before and after my time in Afghanistan. Cold place. Got to see the best of the Air Force play the Kyrgy national team in basketball. Their wives were very Eastern European esque although they are in Asia.

All I really know about Kyrgyzstan is that's where the Boston Bombers were from. And that it's one of those forgotten Central Asian countries.

Not surprising. Siding with another major power being an aggressor to a smaller country kind of goes against their belt and road initiative, IMO.

Well we were the original gangsters of that when the Truman admin had Admiral Forrestal chucked out the 16th floor of the Bethesda Naval Hospital because he was about to spill the beans on the UFOs. Imagine how pissed off he’d be to know the Navy sent the evidence to the lead singer of Blink-182 so it could be finally exposed to the public, lol.

My electric utility went under today, thanks to skyrocketing energy prices. Shopping for a new one was my first action in the current war, I guess.
Be happy you get a choice. In most parts of the US cable companies, teleco's, and electric companies own the areas wires so while a few of them have been deregulated like the telcos were about 20 years ago. You could call any company you want to however they just turn around and call the company you dont want to work with and order the service from them. Only difference is the bill you get comes from the people you order the service from not the company that provides the service.

The way it works around here, I'm free to pick any power company but I'm stuck with the local transmission company that owns the grid (and it does its very best to exploit the monopoly).

What he lost was his electricity seller, not the area wire company of his area, or electricity deliverer if you will. The setup in Finland is such that the two are separated. The area wire company has the delivering monopoly in your area, obviously, but you can buy the electricity from any seller who do their business in the very artificial electricity market layer as a middle man vendor.

The seller business have become untenable in the current situation and some of them just choose to call the quits and stop doing business. This is what happened to Porvari's vendor now.

Producing the electricity isn't any more expensive than it used to be, and the plants are raking in silly profits as the market prices get inflated by the European demand due to Germans having been idiots.

Sounds kinda like they did here with phone companies. You could pay MCI but (where I live the area is Verizons) but MCI would just sub out the wires and the service from Verizon. You still ended up with Verizon you just didn't know it
