If it was up to me, I'd let the players coach themselves before hiring Babcock. I'm not saying he'll never coach again, in fact he probably will. He's good at the job, and the things he did his first few seasons in Toronto were things no one else could have done. But I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team, ever.

Gallant is the top choice, from what I know. But Lavi and Boudreau are great coaches, too.

Depends completely on the roster. Best coaches for:

-Blue-collar team with zero superstars
  • Tortorella
-a Bunch of big egos that just need to be put to their place for a short run at the Cup etc
  • Babcock
-a team with good defense coaches already in place, that just needs a jolt for their offense
  • Boudreau
-a team that has all the other coaches in place, but need a PP specialist coach
  • Oates

I agree that Sutter is finished, Babcock will be hired just like Keenan and Torts were after it was said they would never coach again.

Tortorella has such a long history of making it work that he might have a gig until he's 90.

The six times John Tortorella was the worst

Did he ever have problem with his own team? The "controversies" were always with the media, other teams etc. I have to say at least 50% of the time he just seemed like a guy doing anything it takes to take the attention away from his players.

And I say "controversies", because there is nothing new in chirping the oppositions coach or players. The only thing that I might call a real controversy was the Calgary thing, and even that wasn't really that bad. Roy did worse in his first game.

How would I rank the coaches sitting at home?

Lots of factors to consider really. What are they sitting on? Couch or Recliner? Is the home 2 or 3 bedrooms?

How would I rank the coaches sitting at home???

Very carefully...

I remember when Babcock was recently crowned a generational coach. How things change fast around here.
You do remember virtually all Leafs fans wanted him fired after last years playoffs.

As for anything that was said prior to him coaching Toronto, I remember the talk was why the hell would Babcock want to even consider coaching the Leafs? They didn't have any good players who were up and coming, which is why he should go to Buffalo since their rebuild was way ahead of Toronto.
