Both times Foegele muscled his way out of the boards. Not many of our wingers can do that consistently, sadly.

Stemp thought Boyle would tie Foegele up and that would be the end of it, so imagine his surprise when Foegele muscles his way through Boyle's check. Stemp parked right next to the goalie, which is why I think the five hole was wide open, Scott Darling open.

Not many of our forwards can do what Foeg just did, powering through 2 heavy defenders and still getting it to the net. Staal could, and probably McGinn.

Zykov isn't great at that though he's decent on the boards (From what I've seen the last few games) Foegele yeah he's the best I've seen at getting the puck and turning toward the net (In terms of consistency)

It's skating. Zykov isn't slow, but he doesn't have much acceleration, so even if he muscles his way past a guy he'll still get caught. To his credit, I think he knows it, 'cause he'll tie his man up and wait for Aho or TT (who ARE fast skaters) to come get it.

Boyle partially whiffed on hitting Foegele because Foegele burst past Vatanen so quickly. It surprised everyone.

That's one thing I haven't seen as much as I expected out of Staal.. McGinn I can see i but not a guy I expect to do it if you understand my hesitation.

Staal does it but then for some reason doesn't capitalize as much as you'd expect. If he gets to the net, he typically gives it right to the goalie with a bad shot.

Having Foegele blow past Stempniak, steal the puck from him, get to the front of the net and score while Lee barely had time to move is just the perfect summation of this season. We just haven't had NHL players this year and we grew used to watching plays die in the offensive end.

Also, I thought Darling looked pretty confident that period. That goal was going to happen the way we were chasing the puck on that shift. JvR particularly was a little lost on the play. The team definitely got some jump after Darling's shorthanded save. Again, not hoping he'll be back, but let's give credit where it's due.
