ya but isnt kuzy more of scorer. he can never be a better playmaker then backstrom was in his prime

Kuznetsov is a playmaker. 6 goals, 20 assists and currently leads the Caps in scoring. Also note that Kuznetsov had more assists than Backstrom two years ago, he is capable of producing like Backstrom.

Ovechkin will score exactly 50 goals based on my scientific calculations.

Ovechkin averages 4.7 shots per game. His career sh% is 12.3. Ovechkin has currently 17 goals and 57 games and 1 period remaining.

Ovechkin will therefore shoot 269 more shots during the season. With his career average shooting %, that will give him 33 more goals.

Therefore Ovechkin will end up with 50 goals, assuming he plays all games during the season.

Overall it is safe to bet that he will score between 40-60 goals if he stays healthy.

Ovechkin is a volume shooter, in his last three Richard-winning campaigns, his shot totals were 386-395-398, and the shooting % hovered around 13. Last season, his low goals total was due to a wrist injury he played through, which brought down both his shots (to 313) and his shooting % (to 10.5). A similar thing also happened in 2010-11.
It's interesting to look at the shot totals. Instead of 07-08 Ovechkin's absolute peak in terms of shot generation, by and far, seems to be the 08-09 season. He had 528 shots in 79 games, while in 07-08 he had 446 shots in 82 games.

6.7 shots per game. That's pretty good. He could've broke 70 goals easily that season.
