How does Detroit fix their situation?

The Detroit Red Wings are in a pretty bad situation in regards to cap-space for the 2018-19 season. They are loaded with long-term bad contracts, have no cap-space, and need to resign Larkin, Mantha, and AA next season. Larkin and Mantha's contracts are most likely going to cost them quite a bit and I cannot feasibly see them being able to sign them in their current cap situation. Most of the players that are signed to big contracts (especially Tatar at 5.3, Nyqvist at 4.75, and Ericsson at 4.25) are essentially unmovable. It really seems like an impossible situation. Is there anything they can do?

They definitely have some bad contracts but Tatar and Nyqvist aren't unmovable and they won't have any problem signing Larkin, Mantha, and AA IMO.

It's been said the cap could rise to potentially 80-82 million for next season, the Red Wings currently have 62.175 million in cap hits under contract for next season. That is probably just enough to sign all three players, get a backup goalie, and fill a few roster spots with minimum salary type players.

How much do you think Larkin, Mantha, and AA are going to get?

Tampa Bay
1. Fire Holland
2. Fire Blashill
3. Move on from the likes of Zetterberg and let the young blood take over
4. Trade any and all of these bloated contracts
5. Build from the net out

They have already begun their rebuild the last two seasons. Give it time. Thy still want to keep their culture. They aren’t gutting the entire organization.

Zetterberg has a cap hit of 6.5 mils, but only making 3.3 mils and the 1 mil and 1 mil, which makes him very appealing for a team who needs to hit the salary floor.

Zetterberg would never be dealt unless he asked for it and he isn't going to.

The Wings just need to be patient and draft well the next few years. They have the money to do the three people everyone is concerned with they bottom out for a couple years with those kids playing big roles while these older guys contracts expire and if you drafted well while being up the board for the first time in forever than it gets better. They will need a little lottery luck likely, but really all they have is time. It isn't going to be great for the next little stretch, this version of the team needs to be thinking a lot more about 3-5 years from now not right now.

Both Nyquist and Tatar could probably fetch a 1st, let alone not being "unmovable".

But ya, things don't look good. SOOO much mediocrity.

Toronto area
- Get rid of Holland and Blashill

- Extend Howard (or trade for #1?)
- Trade Mrazek, call up Coreau
- Trade Abdelkader SOMEHOW
- Trade Ericsson SOMEHOW
- Contemplate (maybe) trading Helm
- Do NOT extend Kronwall
- Do NOT extend Franzen obviously
- Keep Zetterberg (unless overpay)

- Draft BPA but really focus on acquiring good young D. Maybe identify the good D in the draft and trade up to get them.

- Continue to focus on drafting good D (like I said already) and also C. Wingers and goalies are easier to acquire. Overall probably go BPA but C/D players get the tiebreakers when you can't decide who to draft.

They'll be fine. The cap will likely increase, and removing Green and Mrazek from the books clears up a lot of space. There's also the strong possibility of Kronwall going on LTIR (or simply retiring), along with Z, and an outside chance Nyquist/Tatar is traded (long shot but possible).

Not a Wings fan, but you'd think they'd be all over Tavares. Send them a young guy, Nyquist Tatar. I doubt he'll want to stay with the Isles anyway

The cap will likely increase, Green and Mrazek will come off the books for sure, Weiss buyout will cost less next season. Don't worry, we'll be good next season in terms of cap space.

Bottom out and let Holland's horrible mismanagement of the cap slowly work itself out. And quit signing declining veterans to long-term loyalty deals.

I'm optimistic about Mantha, Athanasiou, Larkin; but they aren't on par with the young talent other teams are assembling. Franchise talent is needed, and it's easiest to find near the top of the draft.
