Aqueduct (New York):
  • Race 5: Tatweej (Dylan Davis/Todd Pletcher) mentioned often by me as a $2.5 million purchase in 2017, trekked north and won to pay $6.80 in his first race outside of Gulfstream. He is 6 4-0-1 lifetime and entered off his worst performance.

  • Handle: $4.7 million.
Laurel (Maryland):
  • Race 9: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $27,000. The $.20 Pick 6 paid over $25,000. And that was with only one true notable price. Huge numbers at Laurel.
Gulfstream (Florida):
  • Handle: $9.3 million.
  • Jose Ortiz had a 3-win day.
  • Replay show:

Oaklawn (Arkansas):
  • Race 5: The $.50 tri paid over $1,200. The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $23,000.

  • Chad Brown won three of the seven races he entered and was victorious at three tracks. He finished 9 3-2-2.
  • Todd Pletcher had a 4-win day.
Aqueduct (New York):
  • Race 8: Risk Taking (Eric Cancel/Chad Brown) won the $250,000 Grade 3 Withers Stakes. It is a Kentucky Derby prep and worth 10 points towards the winner. The colt is a $240,000 purchase by Klaravich Stables.
  • Sunday's Cancellation: Sunday's card has ben canceled due to expected inclement weather and moved to Monday. It is rare for a NYRA track to run on Monday with Saratoga in the summer and major holidays the exceptions.
Laurel (Maryland):
  • Alexander Crispin, who was named Apprentice Jockey of the Year for 2020, won three times. Maryland has a rich history in breaking jockeys.
Tampa Bay (Florida):
  • Card: Four stakes including three graded.
  • Handle: Well over $13,000,000 which is exceptional for Tampa Bay.
  • John Velazquez (4 wins), Junior Alvarado (2) and Antonio Gallardo (2) won eight of the 12 races.
  • Race 11: Candy Man Rocket (Junior Alvarado/Bill Mott) won the $250,000 Grade 3 Sam F., Davis and with it received 10 points towards entry into the Kentucky Derby. Alvarado and Mott have formed a nice team. The horse is a $250,000 purchase by Frank Fletcher who has horses with Bob Baffert and Brad Cox among others.

  • Race 10: Counterparty Risk (John Velazquez/Chad Brown) won the $175,000 Grade 3 Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes.
  • Race 9: Curlin's Catch (Antonio Gallardo/Mark Casse) won the $150,000 Suncoast Stakes and with it received 10 points towards entry into the Kentucky Oaks.
  • Race 8: Get Smokin (Junior Alvarado/Thomas Bush) won the $175,000 Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes.
  • Race 2: First career win with her 10th starter for trainer Leslielyn Hardesty.
Gulfstream (Florida):
  • Irad Ortiz, Jr. solidified his reputation as the nation's top rider with a 10 6-0-2 mark. The six wins were one off the track record and included five straight winning rides.
  • Handle: Over $12 million.
  • Todd Pletcher won three times. He added a fourth win at Tampa Bay.
  • Race 7: Democracy (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Todd Pletcher) debuted to victory at 6-to-1 which is an absolute gift considering the connections and the $400,000 purchase price. The Quality Road colt is owned in part by Tami Bobo from Florida's horse country near Ocala. Collaborate (Tyler Gaffalione/Saffie Joseph, Jr.) failed in his first race. The $600,000 Into Mischief colt was in the 10 post and that is not ideal in a 6 furlongs race at Gulfstream.
  • Weather: Afternoon rain storms interrupted the otherwise pleasant day.
  • Replay show:

Oaklawn (Arkansas):
  • Race 9: The $.50 Pick 4 paid over $21,000.
Santa Anita (California):
  • Handle: An impressive $17 million which included $5,316,575 in new money wagered in the $.20 Pick 6. The pool stood at $6,214,637. Each of the 201 winning tickets paid $24,654.80.
  • Card: Four graded stakes.
  • Triples: Umberto Rispoli was 8 3-1-2 and Joel Rosario also had a 3-win day.
  • Race 3: Moonlight d'Oro (Flavien Prat/Richard Mandella) won the $200,000 Grade 3 Las Virgenes Stakes and with it earned 10 points towards entry into the Kentucky Oaks.
  • Race 7: Concert Tour (Joel Rosario/Bob Baffert) won the $200,000 Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes. Freedom Fighter (Drayden Van Dyke/Bob Baffert) was a game second. These horses could be pointed toward Ky. Derby preps.

^ Keep an eye on Bezos making his debut at Santa Anita. Another Baffert runner. Big money being bet PRIOR to his maiden race and he is getting buzz for the Derby.

Aqueduct (New York):
  • Canceled: Snow and associated inclement weather.
Laurel (Maryland):
  • Race 6: Gravity's Rainbow (Sheldon Russell/Brittany Russell) debuted to victory for the hubby-wife duo. Brittany has won in New York, Florida and Maryland within the past week. How about that?!
  • Race 7: Feargal Lynch rode for the first time since July. He had been sidelined with a fracture in his neck and one in his back.
Gulfstream (Florida):
  • Handle: $10 million.
  • Conditions: Off the turf.
  • Race 6: Boston Post Road (Paco Lopez/Chad Brown), a 3-year-old daughter to Quality Road, debuted to victory, a $525,000 purchase price by Peter Brant.
  • Race 2: Just Like Mike (Irad Ortiz, Jr./Armando De la Cerda) won by more than 16 lengths.
  • Replay show:

Oaklawn (Arkansas):
  • Race 9: Even with a favorite winning the finale, the $.50 Pick 5 was hit for over $122,000. The longest odds winner was at 16-to-1.
Santa Anita (California):
  • Handle: Over $8 million.

Boston Post Road caught the eyes of plenty yesterday. I will wait for her second race before espousing more virtue but she does look mature as Quality Road offspring can. Chad Brown trains, Peter Brant owns. Definitely one to consider as bigger purses await.

Aqueduct (New York):
  • Monday Monday: A rare non-holiday Monday race day at a NYRA track not Saratoga. This was due to yesterday's cancellation and the card was transferred.
  • Handle: Roughly $4.4 million.
  • Race 5: Six of the seven horses who ran were claimed.
  • Race 4: Mo Desserts (Pablo Morales/Jimmy Jerkens) romped by more than 15 lengths. Such margins are rare. This was a field of five.
  • Race 3: Miss Brazil (Eric Cancel/Tony Dutrow) won the $100,000 Ruthless Stakes at 2-to-5 in a reduced field of three. She was a $170,000 purchase in 2019 and now stands at 3 2-0-1 lifetime. The winning margin between first and third -- again, only three in the race -- was 51 lengths. Makes me wonder if that is some sort of record at the Big A between first and third. Miss Brazil will now head for the Busher ($250,000) on March 6.

  • Eric Cancel had a 3-win day. He hit the board with each starter and finished 7 3-2-2. He is the second winningest rider at the meet.
  • Kendrick Carmouche won twice and leads the meet with 48 wins.
Parx (Pennsylvania):
  • Canceled: Weather issues.

Luca Panici has a multiple fractured vertebrae. He is out indefinetly. From what I recall, he may have had a similar injury last year depending on the area. He was having a decent meet Hopefully, he recovers quickly.

Proposed racing at Cumberland Fairgrounds would benefit Bangor harness racing (bangordailynews.com)

The article linked is a couple of moths old but how familiar are you with the tracks and proposals mentioned?
that's the proposal that was outlined earlier....

yea, Bangor is run by Penn National, though, so this is the commercial licensee tracks.

both are very familiar. the reasoning to shift once Scarborough was done (Which was very odd timing, btw).

see, the group that wanted and received the license for 2021 had to go and get permission to do that...

official 56 day meet @ Cumberland beginning in May 2021; 150 race dates total for 2021.

Junior Alvarado was named Jockey of the Week in North America. He had much success in a rare visit to Tampa Bay on Saturday. As I have said many times, Alvarado is a good rider. Not perfect but he has been exceptional for bettors especially. He is trying south Florida for the first time in a while during Gulfstream's current Championship Meet but will return to New York around April.
