First of all, Merry Christmas to all of you guys!

Now, who do you guys think had a higher peak?

Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, or Kane?

There has been a general consensus that crosby and ovechkin have been the two best since '05, but there was a point in time where stamkos was considered a top 3 player (sadly injuries derailed him) and kane has garnered a ton of attention since last year so I just wanted your thoughts.

Two of those do not belong

Stamkos actually had a couple good years. But this is crosby's vs ovechkins to win or lose.

If length of time doesn't matter it's crosby in one of his injured years plus his rocket year, If it's 3 full seasons it might be ovechkin.

If it goes longer it switches back to crosby.

65 goals

in one season

crosby in 10-11 before the injury was absolutely nuts though. he was even better than he is now, and this is the best ive seen him since then.

No idea why Stamkos or Kane are even mentioned. I'll give a slight edge to 2008 Ovechkin over 2011 Crosby since Ovechkin actually did it on ice for the whole season.

Gotta be Ovy. Honestly even his rookie year I think was better than Crosby has ever been.

Crosby is very easily #2 though.

Ovechkin was literally unstoppable for a time. Crosby is right there too, but I'd give it to Ovie, he was a force of nature on the level of a peak-aged Lindros or Forsberg. You just don't see players reach that level very often.

Crosbys the better player pretty easily, but I think Ovi has peak pretty easily. I mean he has the most goals in one season since Lemieux( I think, that could be wrong). Dude was absolutely unstoppable for his first 4-5 seasons in the nhl.

I think people get confused with Ovechkin because he is SO MUCH worse today than he was when he first entered the league, which causes people to forget just how great he was.

I know it's a highlight video and it's not overly scientific, but seriously just watch this video from his rookie year and see the dominance:

He was one of the best skaters in the NHL, had one of the best hands in the NHL, had the best shot in the NHL, was one of the hardest hitters in the NHL, had elite hockey sense, and had one of the highest compete levels in the league. He was so good at every aspect of the game.

His best season he had:

82GP 65G 47A 112P +28 , 220 Hits, 446 shots

He was a freak of the game and is easily my choice. That said, he really only played at this level for 3 seasons or so, then he just relied on his incredible shot and didn't really play that well-rounded game that he used to. This in contrast to Crosby who has done nothing but continue to improve his game year-after-year and play consistently at a ultra-elite level season in and season out.

People always forget that Ovechkin had 64 points in his first 41 games the season before that. Crosby's season seems so dominant because it got cut off before he slowed down.

This is obviously between Crosby and Ovechkin and I think I give this to Ovechkin for his goal scoring.

The first two make for an excellent debate.

The second two aren't even in the debate for third.

with Malkin not in consideration, is he a nr 1? :)

It should be a Crosby and Ovechkin debate. Malkin would be a clear #3, except to the person who created this thread and decided to include Stamkos and Kane while omitting Malkin.
