I think you're oversimplifying to avoid giving the Leafs credit.

Not all playoff teams are equal, and the Leafs are clearly in the upper echelon this season.

The Leafs definitely deserve credit. But if you want them ranked in the upper echelon -- however you define it -- couldn't fans of Calgary, Nashville, Winnipeg, NYI, San Jose, Tampa, Boston, etc. make the same claim with just as good or better facts?

I think there's 5 teams at the front of the pack - Tampa(obviously), Calgary, Toronto, Winnipeg, and the Sharks. I think the Islanders are due for regression, despite being up with those other teams record-wise. MTL is probably a more dangerous team.

I definitely don't think Toronto is the only top contender.
