I looked up the totals since the 2005-06 season (excluding the abbreviated 2012-13), and the Buffalo Sabres didn't even reach 2000 (1984) during the 2014-15 season. Mind you, that was the McDavid/Eichel draft. The Wings currently have 1525 (27.7 Shots/GP) at the 55 game mark.

And it's not like there is a McDavid generational equivalent this year.
