Nobody ever thought Tanev wouldn't be very good on their team, what team wouldn't want him? They questioned a six year contract.

They brought in Tanev to replace what they got rid of in Hagelin. Hagelin is 31 and the Caps just gave him a 4 year deal this offseason. He makes only $750k less than Tanev. Tanev is younger, just as fast and offers higher upside on the offensive end. Hes also 3 years younger than Hagelin.

I see Tanevs game lasting until 33 much better than Hagelin at 34.

Edit: both of them have extremely easy contracts to move in the waning years of their deals.
