What a complete jerk move by Babcock. Spezza has one maybe two years left in the NHL and you do him like this for the home opener/first game, against the Senators?:(

I would be livid if I was his teammate about this.

The Babs don't care.

Spezza knew what he was getting into.

I won't defend babcock often but he needs to use him as a skilled 13th forward PP specialist.

The quote about the PK from Babcock is also so wierd. Like what the hell ? Is he actually planning to play Spezza in a defensive role and on the PK ? There's no way that can work. I've seen it tried under Hitchcock two years ago and it failed miserably . Now the next oldschool veteran coach tries the same thing again. With the changes to faceoffs i'm not even sure his good faceoff skills are really going to be that much of an asset on the PK anymore anyway. If Spezza loses his defensive faceoff you are stuck with a terrible defensive player in your own zone.

I get it, I really do. Never play Spezza again for all I care, but this game tonight, in what surely would have been a huge deal for Spezza and his family? And against a team they will most likely wreck? Come on!

1 point can be the difference between having home ice to the Bruins in the playoffs or losing it.

If Jason Spezza is the reason between winning and losing to the Ottawa Senators the Leafs are in trouble.

And again, Spezza can get waived tomorrow and I would understand, but tonight, he should be playing.

Surprised Spezza signed there to begin with. He had to have an idea that this was Babs MO? I dont really blame babs, you have to dress the guys who give you the best shot at a win.

Another dick move by Babcock, no surprise there.

He knows he's on the hot seat if the Leafs don't go on a deep run this season, so he'll scramble to get every point he can - even at the cost of what would've been a sentimental move to play Spezza against his old team.

This is a man who had Mike Modano as a healthy scratch with 1499 games played. Babcock doesn't give a crap about this type of stuff

Also, since 17/18 (when the Sens started sucking) all pre-season and regular season games combined the Senators have a 64% winning pct. against the Leafs.

Great way to start.

Four games, two with four legit Cup contenders and two with four Canadian teams.

Good job of balancing the schedule by the NHL

Babs didn't like that Spezza was a story at all. Showing everyone who's boss. He probably has it in his contract that he has final approval of cameras post-game so he can make sure they're all on him.

Good on Leafs lunch for ripping Babcock. He'll be fired after they bow out to the Bruins for the 7th year in a row.
