Yup, in hindsight, it's probably best that everything fell apart quickly so they could initiate the rebuild. The Pens are still trying to hold on, the Kings are still trying to hold on, and both won't do anything when it comes to the playoffs and will be in our position in a few years. Only team that has held it together is the Bs, really.
Kings are like a half and half. Their 2019 and 2020 Drafts were busy, with high headline picks and volume after.

The Kings are what the Hawks were trying to do when being boosted by Dach/Boqvist.

Byfield is finally into a groove and Turcotte is at least in the NHL now. But it's too little too late to merge the new pieces with the cup contenders. The Hawks if they stuck with that post covid would still be there.

Had they held onto Brock Faber, then things could be looking different.
