Manning, Ruuta and a 4th for Gagner

Pay for the cap space.

Win win

Canucks flip a MDZ or Pouliot as a result

LA should fire their GM on the spot if that goes down. And if the pick is a 1st or 2nd then Bowman should be fired on the spot.

a 2nd, even a high one, is worth firing Bowman over? you're getting a legit top 4dman that was basically untouchable up until this year.

What a horrific signing Manning was. He's got negative value, for sure. A #7 guy making 2.25 next year, he's not just a rental. No one's taking him without sending CHI another contract back.

Rutta could probably fetch a mid-late round pick. He's gone up and down between an okay 2nd pairing guy and solid bottom pairing guy. Pure rental. Could be a good buy low move like Michal Kempny was last year.

The only Manning proposal that makes sense is something like Gagner as a return with Vancouver retaining enough so dollars wash out. Or a similar type player with a year left thats out of favor with their team and cap washes out. Likely a forward.

Green is in love with Pouliot, and there is no way either Hawks guy would displace him. We also have Del Zotto in the way on the left side. Juolevi should be playing already over thosr two, but our organization did the smart thing for a change and is feeding him kminute in thr A. Hughes is also a possible signing in the spring when the university hockey season ends. We have 0 for a LHD unless he is a drastic improvement on our current junk heap third line LD. Gagner is getting a raw deal, and should be on our roster over (insert random Benning acquisition) and is a better fit thenteither Rutta or Manning.

I'd happily trade one of our junk LHD for one or the other though.

Giving up a 2nd to have a low probability of making the playoffs and then getting throttled in the first round by Nashville or Winnipeg is idiotic...I’m not saying Muzzin or Martinez are not worth a 2nd+.

Manning isn't very good. Don't see how Chicago gets more than a sixth rd pick.
Rutta is decent and would want on the Islanders.

Do you think the space is really for this season? It's not. The Hawks are tanking (they need to plus they are bad)

Rutta is a UFA after this season, even Kunitz is just a 1yr contract. If you're talking about "beyond this season" then yeah, sure, maybe the 2.25m that they save on Manning is smart (maybe they're positioning themselves to create as much cap space as possible to bring Panarin back. Close to 17~ million in cap space next year, the 2.25 from Manning gone makes it close to 20m.

If the Hawks can move a bigger contract, maybe they can re-tool with the free agency pool and get back to their respectable selves.

Bowman should look at what the Rangers did with their retool.

Really??? They are aggressively shopping low end depth players? Not like a whole bunch of teams are lined up waiting to scoop these two up, just sounds like odd wording for what would be extremely minor roster moves.

Pens have 9 defensemen on the roster, but only two are RHS, one of which is Shultz who is on IR till at least February. How about a swap of one of them for Rutta? Oleksiak probably makes the most sense. there. Riikola and Pettersson on the Pens will be given more time to take a look at, Maatta is more valuable and Jack Johnson doesn't have an appealing contract.

We could also open it up wider, do Saad + Ruuta for Maatta + X for the Pens.

I think the main idea is to open a roster spot and clear some cap space for the future. Oleksiak has 2 more years on his deal so I don’t think the Hawks would be interested in a straight swap for Rutta.
