Hawk fans, what happened to Toews?

For what it's worth I've never thought Toews was as good as he was often made out to be. Very good player, but not amongst the top tier in the league. That contract definitely is hard to justify these days as well

2010 great first 3 rounds, average in the finals

2013 average in the first 3 rounds. Good in the finals

2015 good to great in the first 3 rounds Average in the finals

In the 2015 most of the top players on both teams got Shutdown in the finals. The 3rd line for the Hawks of TT Vermette Sharp was the difference in that series
2010... He was great the first half of the playoffs but really fell back second half.

In fact if you take the time from the 2010 final until the end of the 2013 playoffs Toews only scored 6 goals in 42 games.

Over an 82 game season that is 12 goals and 49 points but those teams were so deep they didn't really need him as long as they had Keith and Kane
I actually think his 2015 post season was by far his best, the difference was that 1 player(Keith), arguably 2(Keith/Kane) were better. That was his best run though in terms of his play on both ends of the ice, but like you pointed out...he still have trouble, especially in the Anaheim series, while being ok in the Tampa bay series.

2010, he racked up PP points while having little to no defensive responsibilities. He then had a horrid showing in the finals where the Hawks overall team effort came through in the end, led by Kane's 8 points and Cup winning goal. He got carried big time that philly series, but his play in the early rounds earned his Conn Smythe.

2013, he had little to no impact on the score sheet, having only 1 goal through the first 3 rounds with no no double digit point totals. He also had a good amount of offensive zone starts with still not a lot of defensive responsibilities, but still wasn't producing, but his possession stats were phenomenal. At the end of the day, he could count of the team around him to put pucks in the net and help shut down the opposing team. He showed late series herioics in the finals, and that sort of "made up" for his lack of for the rest of the playoffs. Crawford and arguably Keith IMO were the true MVPs that year.

Toews play has always complimented his team and has been complimented by how the team was built. Both offensively and defensively, solid depth on both ends of the ice, for most of his career he has had a great supporting cast surrounding him, with his play further made the team that much better, but now he doesn't have the same supporting cast he once did, and he has more responsibilities on both ends of the ice, he is now exposed for the player he really is, which isn't a bad player, but not this all time great, top center in the league kind of player....why that offends people? I will never understand, but for many, Toews NEEDS to have the most hype, the most acknowledgement, and the highest status.

He was terrible in the 2016 WCOH. In the finals he was setting up Europe for numerous odd man rushes.
This is embarrassing. Europe had one elite line of kopitar and hossa. Of course babcock having a brain played toews against them. While crosby played against non or fringe nhlers

Why would he waste his best offensive talent on a defensive assignment or against the best defenders if possible? This doesn't prove anything.

Sure thats fine. Its more that babcock wouldnt trust the defensive responsibility to crosby. But it also means comparing the production of crosby against toews in a vacuum in wcoh 2016 is really really disingenuous. For all we know crosby would've given up 2x the “odd man rushes”.

Toews was passing it right to the opposition. It had little to do with who he was playing.

With how many Cups Chicago won with Toews fans should not even be disappointed if the Hawks missed the playoffs for 5 years straight.

Yeah he was a big part of the three Cups and I'll always remember him for that...but I think he's burnt out in Chicago and it might be time for a change of scenery...unless he's just burnt out because of Q.

Either way, it looks like the Hawks' run is over as Cup contenders, but it was a great run!

I watched the game last night hawks vs kings, and the only line that was doing anything offensivly is kane's line. Toews is not cutting it. Don't be surprised if Kane will want out.

Opposition matters. Just ask crosby. In his 9 games against toews he has 3 points and is a -12. I guess crosby loves passing it to toews.

An excellent player who is on a stacked team sometimes turns into a good/very good player on a middle of the pack team.
