Has Nathan MacKinnon finally got back to his rookie form?

A big part of why he's shooting better so far this year is his usage IMO. This is the first time he's been used as a shooting weapon in the high slot on the PP. He has a really lethal wrister(As we saw yesterday against Edmonton), and a decent one timer as well.

Now that he's getting that chance in a good spot to shoot more I think we'll see him score more goals.

At this point I think a 25-30 goal, 65-70 point season is what he's on track for. Would be a big breakout year for him if he can do that.

MacKinnon's best so far has come in the last two seasons. He's starting to reach the level he was at two years ago; hopefully he's able to stay healthy & keep it going this time.

We'll see. it's disturbing his best play has still been the first half of his rookie season.

Not only are you wrong about his rookie season topping either of his past two seasons...but you don't even have the right part of his rookie season (he went PPG over the final 40 before scoring 10 points in the 7 playoff games he played).

Impressive

Really hoping he does well. He's the only NHL'er that I have relatively close ties to.

He will never be the player a lot of people had him penciled in as after his first year, however he is by no means a bust.

55-65 pt ultra low end #1C or top end of town #2C. Not what you hope for with a #1 pick but not the end of the world either.

You’re predicting he gets between 33 and 43 points in the final 63 games of the season?

Kind of confused at all the "low end 55-65 point center....not the best defensively...etc"

Are we expecting this 22 year old to not improve? I mean he got 53 points on a historically bad hockey club. The Avs were the laughing stock of the league last year and rightfully so. I think anyone penciling him in as a 55-65 center thinks he's already hit his ceiling, which is more than likely not true. Hoping he continues his stellar play. Sky's the limit.

We'll see with this kid. He clearly has the tools, in the past he has lacked consistency but he looks really good this season. And lol @ whoever said his ceiling is 55-65 points, I think at this point that's his floor. His ceiling is over point per game.

MacKinnon returned to his "rookie form" and even exceeded it last season. Last year was the perfect chance to see who was only starring at the stats versus actually watching a game. He was dominant out their most nights but had literally no support.

I’m not expecting him to maintain his current almost 100 point pace, but I’ll be extremely disappointed if he isn’t over 65.

I've always been a massive supporter of Mackinnon. Everything that he needed to do to fix his game has largely happened. He's a lot more aggressive attacking the defense off the rush, he's making better decisions down low, he's not fumbling the puck as much at speed, and he's being utilized in a much better fashion than in the past.

The next evolution for him needs to be his board work. Mackinnon is extremely strong and doesn't really utilize that strength. He could be one of the best players in the league when it comes to puck possession below the dots, but I'm not sure he even knows it right now.

“Overrated third line center” (this has ‘applied’ to enough players at this point I don’t need a name)
