LOL

No accountability , excuse after excuse hes against a tough team he’s only 20 ...he gets all the free passes but every other young star gets ridiculed.

Also you don’t understand it? Don’t you have buddies you bug back and forth that’s half the fun of sports the trash talk.

No accountability?

Humility: a modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness

The Sabers had 62 points this year, if accountability is your concern it would appear this time would be better spent assessing your favorite organization and franchise player rather than trying to tear apart the Leafs and Matthews.

But then again, those who are not satisfied/comfortable with themselves and their own seek to discredit and/or disparage others.

This thread is an unfortunate example of how petty and downright pathetic society can be.

I’m sorry none of you have anything better to focus on... truly had no idea so many people lived such a sad existence.

Agreed. The fact people want to discuss a high profile hockey player on this hockey discussion forum is pathetic.

Ill take the guy that can actually lead his team to the playoffs

Make no mistake about it Andersen was guy that led them into playoffs. Matthews is not leading at all, he’s barely keeping his head above water in NHL, let alone leading.

Give the kid some time, he’s not the first hot shot rookie to have a bad second season.

Young players struggle in the playoffs sometimes. I remember Malkin's first playoffs at age 20, he struggled heavily against Ottawa. Afterwards there was ridiculous talk about how Jordan Staal is better and Malkin should be traded. Here we are 11 years later and Malkin is one of the best playoff performers of all time.

Babcock is old school, when he sees a guy like Matthews sulking around. He not going to trust him. Like Kipreos say Body language off all series for Matthews, something going on in room, my guess.

One player is not the whole team.

Matthews is just a kid and he will develop into a great player in time.

There is too much pressure and expectations on players these days by both the fans and media.

Bad second season as a sophmore scoring at a PPG clip( even higher before he got injured) . Back to back playoff apparences since Matthews has been with the Leafs. 40 goals as a rookie and 5 goals in 6 games in the playoffs last year. He will be alright

Anybody that actually trust what Kypreos says is delusional

How is trust rated on an objective basis in this league? Ice time and responsibility given. Does Matthews ice time and usage these playoffs suggest a player that was trusted by his coach or not?

Asking a question here, not stating a fact.

Extremely small sample size, young player in his second season and a really tough matchup. Absolutely nothing to be worried about here. Everyone reads way too much into playoff stats over a handful of games. I guess Debrusk is better than Matthews, Letestu is better than McDavid, and Fernando Pisani is one of the greatest players of all time. Some guys just get lucky and get hot at the right time or get a few lucky bounces and everyone calls them a great playoff performer while others don't get those bounces, play hurt in the playoffs, have tough matchups, or just get cold at the wrong time and people call them chokers. I don't think you can even begin to draw any conclusions about a player's overall playoff performance until they've played at least 30-40+ games.

Yes Matthews can continue to be a great regular season athlete. Leafs don't seem to ever be concerned about winning in the playoffs so Matthews is likely a very good fit.

Good thing we dont base a player off of his first 2 playoff apparence that would mean that players like Crosby,Malkin,Stamkos,Tavares are all trash lol thanks for the laugh

Crosby and Malkin had 32, and 26 points in their first 2 playoff appearances. That is above ppg and a trip to the Stanley cup finals.

Do you remember when Bergeron, Chara and these same Bruins held Crosby pointless in a series a few years ago?

Sid turned out ok, I expect the same from Matthews.

Matthews isn't the same player as Sid though. It could go eitherway, Matthews is actually closer to a guy like Rick Nash who still hasn't figured out how to produce consistently in the playoffs.

Yeah, because having a good regular season is all that matters in hockey. The playoffs are just an opportunity to go golfing early, so not showing up is actually a good thing after a gruelling 82-game season. In October when it really counts Matthews will be fine again.

It’s always amusing when people invalidate their own opinion within the same post. Nice work!

is this serious? "Turned out ok?"

up until the boston series, crosby had 105 career playoff points in 78 career playoff games and had been to 2 cups and won 1. which would have put him only behind Mario and Wayne for best playoff PPG for those with over 100 GP.

Not close to a comparable situation.

He's played only 13 playoffs games and has 5 goals. That's double of Nash's gpg average in the playoffs. Use some sense before saying something dumb.
