This will be controversial, but I wouldn't even trade Nuge straight up for Hanifin. Nuge has incredible chemistry with McDavid, and without him, Lucic becomes our best winger. We are already stacked at LD with Nurse, Klefbom, Sekera, and Russell.

I do agree that Hanifin is the better player by a decent amount, but I wouldn't trade RNH for him.

Nothing wrong with that. Trades aren't made in a vacuum. They have to make sense for the rosters of the teams involved, so the theoretical "value" of the players is meaningless in a specific trade proposal.

I would say Hanifin for 10th overall alone is pretty close so the OP is pretty brutal.

I Would not trade nuge straight up for hanifan.
10th overall plus jones for Hanifan. lets do that.

Why in the world would Carolina do this? We could just trade Hanifin for a roster player worth more than the 10OA if we were going that kind of route.

To Oilers: Tyler Myers (RD) + Mathieu Perreault (LW)

To Jets: RNH + 2018 2nd

Oilers get a RD with talent who can move the puck and a play-driving LW that can play top 6.

Jets get a #2C and futures, with a bit of cap relief. Jets might still need to move RNH after next season for cap reasons.

The Nuge is set to be Mcdavid’s winger, which I highly doubt Perrault could be, so it would just open up a hole a 1w we have no one to fill it with.

It makes little to no sense for Edmonton to cough up this much for a left handed d-man. Edmonton already has Nurse, Klefbom, Sekera and Russell for lefties.

Wouldn't EDM want a RHD? Justin Faulk makes much more sense as a target.

Yes, but Edmonton probably doesn't have the assets to go out and get someone as expensive as Faulk.
Hopkins won't be in play. He's our 1st line winger. Trading him just creates another equally large hole.
Sekera and Klefbom (2 players Carolina doesn't need) are other players people on these boards keep on spitballing in trades and they're almost as unlikely to be traded as Hopkins.

If the Oilers intend on keeping RNH at wing, and he proves he can play well there, they have no reason whatsoever to trade him. It makes their bad winger depth even worse.

I would do futures up the wazoo for Hanifin, 2019 1st, 2018 40oa, Benson...could scale back the picks and cough up Yamamoto. But Nuge is a no go...so we may both want to dance but will not agree upon a tune.

Ya, that makes perfect sense. Draft Hanifin 5th overall and then after his elc when he’s developing pretty nicely you trade him for a pick 5 spots lower. Great asset management.

You guys should probably trade Nurse for the 12th overall. I would say that’s pretty close.

You are correct there is no way the 10th gets Hanifin. Puljujarvi and a 2nd pick might interest the canes though as Puljujarrvi was drafted 4th.

Hanifin is getting underrrated around here. The guy is a 21 years old , has very good skating , is a PMD , has improved his production every year and is coming off a 10 goals/32pts season which is pretty decent if you ask me.and he will very likely only get better

I would easily do 10th overall fort him if i was Edmonton. In fact if i was Caroline i would be hesitant to do that deal. With Slavin and Faulk they have the luxury to deal him but if i was them i would wait for the right return. Not sure 10th overall straight up is enough but that's just me

Not only is 10th overall not enough - it makes no sense at all. We’re going to trade him for a worse pick than we used on him despite the fact that his development is coming along well? All so we can draft a player that in a few years may be as good as Hanifin is now? He’s 21 and we’re not rebuilding. If he gets traded it’s not for futures.

Thats how i see it. And for the record i'm a fan of neither team.

I mean people are talking about Hanifin like he's a 30 years old fringe top 4 D PMD who has already reached his upside. or something Personally i don't think it's the case at all and i won't be surprised at all if he start putting 50+pts season in the near future.

The kid has all the tools to become a solid top 2 PMD imho

What is with all the over valuing of a 30 pt defenceman? He MAY become very good, but so far, he is at highest a 30 pt defender who was -20 with only 18 minutes a night and what sounds like sheltered minutes. He may turn into what the hype is, so far, he is not worth a 50-60 Pt center and 10th overall. I wouldn't trade RNH for Hanifin straight up at this point!

Well good thing defensemen are only measured in their point totals.

Just trying to calm the over-hype from Canes fans. He had 32 pts and was -20, only playing 18 minutes a night, which means he would have had a much worse minus stat if he was playing top line minutes against everyone else's top players. Also from what I have read about him, is that he plays very sheltered minutes, which means right now he is not trusted in his own zone, so being -20 in that scenario isn't exactly great for him. I get that their goaltending sucked this year, but still.
