Yes the cap number is reduced but they’re already deep in LTIR. They get no additional space from this move.

never mind they do get approximately that buried relief of $1.9ish
It's quite significant that the Canucks are below the salary cap, because it means that bonuses would apply to this year rather than to next year. Most significantly is $1.5m in gimme bonuses for Halak, but Hoglander, Podkolzin and Rathbone all are eligible for certain ELC bonuses (haven't looked into what they are).

They’re not below the cap. They’re in LTIR. They were using all of their $5.3m in LTIR space before this. Now his buried hit ($1.875m) is available.

All of the bonuses are on next years cap because the team is in LTIR.

Why are you guys believing that Hamonic is anti-vaxx? He if anyone got a good reason to get the jab. If his daughter gets the virus it might be over for her since she is recovering from another respiratory virus. However, that might be the reason why he doesn’t want to travel around the whole continent. Maybe he just want to stay at home and take care of the most important thing in his life - his family?

because it doesn't. its more false information spreading. Immunocompromised is reason to vaccinated, not to be not vaccinated.

Its almost like you don't know that vaccinated people still can get and spread COVID. It is less likely, but it happens regularly. The main advantage is vaccinated people rarely die from COVID.

So its possible he is vaccinated but doesn't want to travel with an NHL team and risk bringing home covid to his family. It is also possible he's not vaxed. We don't know - at least not from a definitive/credible source.

I think some wires are getting crossed here because of deleted posts.

Someone said they (not Hamonic) have a close family member who won't get vaccinated because their daughter is immunocompromised. The post you're responding to was questioning that logic. People who live with an immunocompromised person have more of an urgent reason to be vaccinated, because it reduces by some 80%-90% the likelihood that they bring home the virus and kill their family member. It's only the immunocompromised people themselves who should refrain, for obvious reasons. So it makes no sense to say "I'm passing on the vaccine to protect my immunocompromised daughter".

If you follow the quote train down for what your quoting, the "misinformation" he was referring to was the guy claiming his family member can not get vaccinated because he has an immunocompromised daughter.

Surprisingly the original poster of that comment has not explained the situation any further

The team should drop below the salary cap as it gets healthier - currently there are 28 players counting against the cap, and AFAIK Ferland is the only one expected to be injured throughout the season.

My body my choice apparently is selective.

If he doesn't want it, that should be his choice, especially with changing information on Covid and the vaccine itself.

It doesn't mean he's an anti-vaxxer or some low-life. Comparing other vaccines to this is apples to oranges anyways as it seems this is more related to the flu shot rather than the polio vaccine.

I respect his decision to do what he wants and really hope that isn't the cause for him being suspended without pay.

He is in an industry where 3/4ths of the job involves international travel.

If he really is refusing to get vaccinated, then his "choice" is to not have that job any more. It's pretty simple to understand.

The only players on LTIR are Ferland, Sutter, and Keeper. Sutter is the only one who might come off.

Sadly all the bonuses are rolling to next year.

f*** him because his daughter is sick? You are a mean person.

"Last year, we spent the longest, scariest and hardest week of our lives by our daughter's hospital bedside. We were unsure of what would come next or where this would lead, but with God's strength our little girl fought her respiratory virus and recovered. During that long week, we were helpless and couldn’t do anything to help her except hold her little hands, kiss her head and pray. We saw what a respiratory virus can do to our healthy little girl and it’s something no parent wants or should go through. Now blessed with our second child, a baby boy at home, the risk of today's COVID-19 pandemic is a very difficult one to weigh as parents.“
What does this have to do with him getting vaxxed to go to work?????

Even If his daughter has a compromised immune system... He could go get a f***ing covid test when hes coming home to make sure that he's clean.

I felt sick in March .. I thought it wasn't covid. I got tested for my families sake. In 12 hours I found out it was covid and quarantined. It's not rocket science. So yes. f*** him!

Well whatever it is, I don't think Hamonic deserves any ill-will. If he doesn't file a grievance with the NHLPA than we know he was willing to live with the consequences. Maybe he decided to sign the contract and figure stuff out later, and then that "stuff" didn't get figured out. Hard to blame a guy for trying to grab $6M, as long as he's cool with letting it go now.

I am not going to speculate on what is happening here because I have no insight but I can say that the entire scenario was odd.

Early on it seems like the org was working with him through whatever issues there were, and there were claims it was family related.

Then they put him in the minors to save on cap sapce

Now it seems like the relationship has deteriorated and they are suspending him

Something has happened or they have run out of patience somehow here

My bad - I thought this was in reference to Hamonic. Obviously, it is better for people around the immunocompromised to be vaccinated.

Maybe he is vaxxed, but just concerned about bringing home a breakthrough case to his compromised daughter?
IMO a more reasonable assumption of what's going on.

Vaccinated individuals can still carry COVID. While that's no reason NOT to get vaccinated, it's a good enough reason to not risk international travel and lots of potential transmission events. If I were put in that situation, I would be spending a lot of time thinking about my next move.
