Yes, I've been hoping for this signing all offseason. Strong on the PK, still a decent skater, and fantastic on the draws. Real upgrade for our C depth IMO

You need tons of bodies to fill the roster during the season and that's that sort of move. In that he's a 4th line guy that will fill the need faceoff-wise. Now I prefer killers on the fourth line but you need someone like this too. He's our new Halpern.

I have a feeling Malholtra is not going to be a steady contributor in our lineup. He'll probably end up as a healthy scratch quite frequently. I can see him getting in around 50-60 games next season while getting around 15-20 points.

Mainly going to be a faceoff/PK specialist and nothing more.

This was a great pick up.

Plekanec did poorly in the face off circle last year, especially on the PK. Malhotra should be able to get Plekanec off of the top PK unit which is a substantial improvement.

Still sucks to see White go but Manny is an upgrade. A solid 4th line centre, PK and face-off specialist. Decent depth move.

I've always liked Manny and am happy he's still around. I can remember in 2011 when he returned during the playoffs from his eye injury and the entire arena started to chant his name. Glad he has continued on from that horrific injury.

Is he better than White? Yes. He fits a need. Top faceoff man and PKer.

Good move. No brainer.

More important than faceoffs, with Manny the Canadiens might not have to start their 4th in the offensive zone anymore because Briere couldn't play D, which is huge.

I just saw the price: 850K is a very good deal.
Having him playing on a 4th line and taking top face-off is a very good addition to this team.
White was good in PO but not Malhotra good...

It's a terrible deal. Malhotra can't skate and is injury prone, 34 years old.

Can't skate? Well that's the 2nd thing he's known for besides his faceoffs so hopefully he can skate well.

Injury prone? From 2006 until he got his eye poked out he played in 92% of 492 possible regular season games. Last season he played every game (if not vast majority) since being called up from AHL after proving his eye didn't end his career.

What's wrong with 34 year old 4th line veterans with specialities that fill team need? I guess they can play prospects on the 4th line but not sure about it's benefits. :dunno:

This guy is a true veteran of 900+ games that skates well and has size which puts up the big defensive minutes and plays on the bottom lines. Hes a massive improvement over Ryan White if this team's ambitions is to go further in the PO. He brings a harder game and was a 7th overall pick.

He may be gone at the end of the season and may sometimes be a healthy scratch but hes gonna help this team get better.

I will miss white and his potential.

But malholtra allows for a bit more offence, and adds to the harder elements this team struggles with ie faceoffs, and defensive work.

Whites game, I waited for years to take off. But he never really developed his offensive game, at all, and outside of being an energy layer, wasn't able to provide more.

He simply ran out of time trying to prove more. I wish him nothing but the best, except against us.

Really though, I do believe adding malholtra will add some more offensive flair to the line up.

Moen, Prust, and Wiese are all tough customers, with a bit of scoring prowess.

IMO this is the Canadiens answer to the bruins 4 th line, which has gotten nothing but praise with having a 20 pt centerman leading the way.

20 pts in 60 games? Sign me the **** up bro! We just signed a 3rd liner for 4th line money!

Some guys just have off whack expectations.

If Malhotra wins over 58% of his faceoffs, gets .25 points per game and finishes in the pluses, it's going to be an extraordinary addition to our 4th line, and he showed he can still do this.

Plus, he might get some great chemistry with Weise, I don't think he played with as skilled of a 4th liner as Weise for a long time.

Edit - Waitwaitwait, our 4th line looks like Malhotra/Prust/Weise next year?!? HOLY BLEEP

I would of loved Malhotra 3-4 years ago...but this is a no-risk signing with a player who is also low-risk. He'll bring exactly what's expected from him, faceoff ability, good defensive play especially on the PK, some size, experience and leadership

Hoping he still has some left in the tank.

I loved Ryan White's spirit, but he was a poor hockey player. Dale Weise essentially made him expendable.
