So cool. He makes great vids on YouTube. It’s good the Habs took notice.
What exactly is a video scout? Stays at home and watches videos? Of amateur players? Pros?
I'm happy for the kid. It's awhile I've been following him and he struck me as someone with an eye for detecting talent. I really enjoyed his videos. He will be assigned video footage of prospects and will need to give reports, feedback to the amateur scouts.
Did he post here in the past?

Video scouts? Is that like porn scouts?
I'm not sure why that is a thing. In order to scout a player, you need the big picture of what he does with the puck...and without it. And how he interacts with his coach and teammates. Unless they have multiple cameras trained on a particular player, he only gets, at the very best, 50% of the picture.
When the Habs kids were in Hamilton (2002-3), I was "scouting" them for our site and saw a real scout taking notes. Next period, he was on the other side of the ring. Third period he was 4 rows up, behind the bench. I was curious and landed up talking to him. My big takeaway was......you got to see the bigger picture.
Another thing is you go to scout a certain player, but other jump up on the radar. I went to see how Komisarek was playing...and saw Plekys game. He was more interesting then Komisarek get beaten on the outside like a rented mule. How do you do that from video "scouting"?
Anywho..whatever. it's not my money. But I certainly hope it's not in lieu of real scouting.

Video scouting allows you to see a lot more prospects. A scout can go to 1 game a day (if any), 2 if they are close and not at the same time. A video scout can easily see 7 games in a regular day shift. It also allows analyze in depth some sequences as you can rewind, slow down etc.
Of course, this does not replace actual on the spot scouting, but it is a great complement and I am happy they are hiring someone for it.
It's in addition to
They aren't firing their area scouts.
But area scouts can only see a certain amount of games, in person, per draft year.. so it's a lot better for them to have their game reports, and then get the video scouts reports and see if their multiple viewings corroborate their concerns or strengths.
