My most go-to channel for draft eligible players. Yannick does great work and I'm happy the Habs recruited him.

Although I'm wondering what a video scout does. Is he the one who puts together videos for Timmins and his draft team?

Finally getting what is deserved. Good on you Yannick-- you lit a fire under me for passionately following prospects!

Congrats to him. I like seeing quality people get rewarded and think his videos were solid and hoped Habs would notice as well.

Video scouts? Is that like porn scouts?

I'm not sure why that is a thing. In order to scout a player, you need the big picture of what he does with the puck...and without it. And how he interacts with his coach and teammates. Unless they have multiple cameras trained on a particular player, he only gets, at the very best, 50% of the picture.

When the Habs kids were in Hamilton (2002-3), I was "scouting" them for our site and saw a real scout taking notes. Next period, he was on the other side of the ring. Third period he was 4 rows up, behind the bench. I was curious and landed up talking to him. My big takeaway was......you got to see the bigger picture.

Another thing is you go to scout a certain player, but other jump up on the radar. I went to see how Komisarek was playing...and saw Plekys game. He was more interesting then Komisarek get beaten on the outside like a rented mule. How do you do that from video "scouting"?

Anywho..whatever. it's not my money. But I certainly hope it's not in lieu of real scouting.

This is crazy, I subbed to his channel a while ago and he didn't have too many subs. He was putting out quality content but I never would have thought. Good for him.

It's in addition to

They aren't firing their area scouts.

But area scouts can only see a certain amount of games, in person, per draft year.. so it's a lot better for them to have their game reports, and then get the video scouts reports and see if their multiple viewings corroborate their concerns or strengths.

Video scouting allows you to see a lot more prospects. A scout can go to 1 game a day (if any), 2 if they are close and not at the same time. A video scout can easily see 7 games in a regular day shift. It also allows analyze in depth some sequences as you can rewind, slow down etc.

Of course, this does not replace actual on the spot scouting, but it is a great complement and I am happy they are hiring someone for it.

A pro scout usually does 2 or 3 kids at the same time in a game. But of course, probably no more then 5-ish games a week.

If this is an addition, fine, but it can never be a replacement. At least not yet.

BTW....Julien was behind the bench at that time and it was interesting to see him glancing at a player who just screwed up. Some players hamed up their "i f*** up", but I doubt he bought it. Komisarek was cursing himself on the bench, so he knew he pouched the play...but still did the same thing a few shifts later. How do you get that from a video?

Just saying...
