Don't underestimate Hughes at the deadline. Smart, calculating. He might pull another first rounder out of his hat.
There are many ways in which to have a successful deadline.

Not getting another first is not fatal but would be disappointing, obviously.

However, he may find a way to dispose of some flotsam and jetsam.

Two spots should fall by the wayside no matter what that is a positive IMO.

Looking at the quality of players potentially moving at the trade deadline , Hughes phone may not ring until an hour or so before the deadline.
Seriously, who would want our garbage even if we retained salary.
Hoffman
Dadanov
Drouin
Armia
Dvorak
As a GM would you want any of these underachieving bums in your playoff lineup?
Time for a reality check.

We are MUCH further than 2 or even 3 years from seriously competing. And EVEN LATER, that will only depend of the goalie we could get. People underestimate the work that needs to be done. Especially if we are unable to finish further down. Especially if we can't rack the 1st rounders. Insane how bad our shape is.

Those Covid years did us real harm not moving wasting assets when we should have. The rebuild started a full two years after it was needed.

Amazing how some of these media guys make a living being clueless and idiotic. He is one guy I can't stand. I miss Red Fisher.
