This was a very good pick by the Habs. As a Leafs fan, it reminds be completely of the Tyler Biggs pick from two years ago.

Biggs wasn't known for his offense (the potential is there), but had some great intangibles. McCarron is a bit bigger (6'5, 235 while Biggs is 6'3, 225), however if you look at their stat lines and qualities that they bring to the table, they're very similar players. Both have boxed most of their lives, came up through USDP and have the potential to one day be top 6 power forwards in the NHL. Just be patience with his offensive game. It's not the fastest part of their game to develop and it may take a full year in the OHL before he puts up PPG numbers. That being said, he's a great pick!

Although other fanbases may rip the pick, it's a risk the Habs had to make. If he develops correctly he'll be the exact player you guys need. I hope to see him and Biggs brawling in the NHL one of these days! At the very least, Bergevin drafted a huge bottom 6 player.

really impressed with Biggs' skating at the WJCs. His forechecking was very good too but he seemed to have absolutely no offense. I could be wrong but his offensive upside doesn't look that high to me. Still think he'll be a great bottom 6er.

Good to hear he's boxed, even if he's just Bickel with fighting ability, that's a nice piece.

And I might be wrong about this, but I think that Mcarron can go to the AHL whenever he/the habs want, right? Since he was drafted before he played in the CHL, he's exempt from the CHL/AHL agreement.

Correct.

Le père de M. McCarron vient de me confirmer que son fils a pris sa décision ce soir. Le #ch en fera l'annonce demain matin. #Habs

It says he talked to M. McCarron who said his son took his decision tonight. The Habs will announce it tomorrow. I guess if there's an announce to make, he chose to go to London. Choosing WMU would just mean he stays put.

Yeah, you would think that is the case if the Habs are announcing it...it's also possible we'll even be signing him to his ELC as part of that announcement, the ELC might be the final thing he needed to be convinced to go to London - $ he gets right now from a signing bonus.

Where did this "boxed for years" business come from? Timmins said he's been taking boxing lessons, and that he's done well in the ring. Does anyone know how long he's been boxing, and what "doing well in the ring" constitutes?

I'm still hoping that he develops into a top 6 player, but you're right. As of right now Biggs is looking like he'll be more of a bottom 6 guy. These big guys sometimes put it together late though so I am still holding out hope.

Yeah, that means he's barred from the NCAA right? Good move IMO, he needs all the hockey he can get away from the bogus "student-athlete" limitations.

I am pretty sure they showed London more than any other team last year. Now they have four 2013 1st round NHL draftees on the roster and they are hosting the Memorial Cup, I am expecting at least 5 regular season games.

Thank goodness. I had a nightmare that McCarron would choose UWM citing education as his reasoning, eventually spending four years earning a leisure studies degree.

I think this is the best path for his development, and I think it shows that McCarron's got the stones to take the most direct path towards his dream.

There are streamings. :naughty:

I know...but I'm spending my money way too much on other stremings throughout the league....I might have to do some choices.....Might not renew my ND forfait....will probably exchange a Mac for another Mac....;)

Good reaction despite the loss.

just spoke to WMU coach Andy Murray - told me McCarron has "good attitude, hunger to learn, he'll be well coached in London"

Well if I'm not mistaken, we have seen at least 5 games from them this year....so in a year like this year....I would hope for more. But I guess teams have their say in this.
