PTO is fine,nothing more. As it is there is more than enough competition to fill that 1 spot, if there is even 1.

PTOs are great because it gives the coach more bodies and doesn't have to over play players in the pre-season. If he earns a spot, sign him. Nothing says the coach can't bench him. Oh wait I forgot who the coach is... who the GM is... Kids got no shot at playing an impactful role.
