Too young to remember when the Habs were a great organization top to bottom, eh? Voyageurs under Al MacNeil won 3 Calder Cups in the 70s. Robinson, Mondou, Nyrop, Engblom, Lambert, Chartraw, Wilson all won in the A before graduating to the Bigs. 1985 Sherbrooke Canadiens won the Calder Cup. '86 Stanley Cup winning team included rookies Roy, Richer, Lemieux, Skrudland, Lalor, Kordic. Maybe there's a connection?

You want to create a winning culture with a pipeline of good players or do you want to go back to the dodgy organizational depth of the last 30 years? Because you're doing a good job of arguing for the latter.
We all long for those days Al Mac Neil was superb!!!!

So just over a month since we claimed Chris Tierney off of waivers to plug some holes resulting from injuries piling up.

His steady play, 750k contract, and 6 points in 15 games warrant consideration for re-signing him as a depth center on July 1st. He's 28, 6'1, and 195 lbs.

However, with Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak, and Evans in front of him it might not be worth it.
He would also need to potentially beat out Belzile (UFA)
Assuming both Monahan and Drouin will be gone
Assuming Simoneau, Mysak, Mesar, Beck, Kidney need to develop in the AHL

He could also play Wing but would need to take a spot from Harvey-Pinard, Pezzetta, Pitlick, Ylonen, Gurianov. Or out battle some of the kids in the AHL like Teasdale, Heineman, Richard and guys soon to join like Farrell and Roy.

Also need to think there might be some other UFA's that are tempting.

Overall not looking good for a Tierney re-signing despite his decent play. Anyone think differently?

Fair assessment if you ask me. If he will accept riding the AHL bus as one of the vets on an NHL min salary though......Laval could do a hell of a lot worse.

I expect he'll be able to land a 4th line gig somewhere in the NHL though given his effective showing for us.

Bang on............fair to say he is a tweener? NHL/AHL good guy to fill a spot, especially on a injury riddled team.

They just might consider him on July 1st.................that said, there are kids coming hard for spots and we have vets who suck more than Stormy Daniels.

Can we send him down to Laval?
He did play 20 AHL games earlier this season for Charlotte. But as a 28 year old veteran with 589 NHL games on his resume I think he's definitely looking for a 1 way contract with a team that looks promising to keep him in the NHL.

The AHL also has rules on the number of roster spots given to vets so it could make things complicated if Laval want to bring in a few vets but haven't seen that approach from HuGo in Laval thus far.

I'm not sure we let both Monahan and Drouin walk, and both can bring more than Tierney. But is either affordable?

Belzile is not bad either and should have less of an issue sitting out than Tierney if necessary. I don't think Belzile will sign elsewhere if he gets an offer from the Habs.
