What team has achieved "lasting results?"
While taking into account just last season for your own team, more expensive, less results, now in a cap crunch.

Everything fell right in the beginning, much like our quick start as a franchise and stanley cup run in '96. But you guys are up against the cap and have older guys signed to big money that are not with their best years ahead of them. It can happen, and all the luck to you, but I had my doubt about GMGMs plan at the expansion draft, and I am waiting to see if he can iron out the kinks.

Man I would love for my Flames to add him but cap wise I don’t think we could make it work.

Is there a level of danger he might end up back in the KHL at this point?

For sure but it also sounds like he wants to be paid real $. I wonder how many teams are willing to gamble on giving him big money.

What is real $$ for Vegas, can be OK for other teams. I mean, Vegas in big cap troubles, so even $4M/year is real for them, and I think $4M for one or two years of Gusev is pretty reasonable.

Vegas doesn't have a lot of cap to sign Gusev. I'd imagine they would want a 2nd pairing Dman with a low salary (under 2.500) if they were to trade him. Probably a good pick as well.

Can we start with basis of New Jersey taking Clarkson and Gusev and offering Mueller/Carrick and a pick?

You trade Clarkson to sign Gusev. Don't need to include both in a deal and get nothing back. Just trade Gusev for value.

If anyone can clarify why he can't be given a offsheet that would be great because I don't understand.

He signed a ELC and it has expired.

Is he still considered a group 1 RFA?

If he is still considered a group 1 then he's not arbitration eligible. He doesn't have the required games to make him eligible (10 games in a pro league for players 24 and older) to be a professional. According to the NHL CBA.

From what I can read it's not making sense.
