Funny, Jagr said it was a cheap shot from this Ruutu aswell.
Haven't seen it though..

It was the cheapest hit I have seen in a long time... Of course the "Finnish Parade" here on HFboards will say Jarkko made a clean hit... LMAO... go look it up on youtube... And then Little Man Straka kicked his @$$.. THats also from the top of my head... I have usually a good memory ;)

Didn't watch more than a few minutes of this game, the tight score was however what I expected. Group E will be insane, the playoffs have basically started for any team in that group not named Czech Republic.

LOL, this thread is 10 pages of whining about the refs.
Great game by Pavelec, solid team effort by Czech team, and I was impressed by Aaltonen (again), NHL scouts should look at him.

I'm pretty sure Lehtonen was injured.
I do agree that Pulkkinen should have been chosen.
These games have just proved that Lahti was Pulkkinen's creation and is pretty much useless without him:shakehead.

To be honest, I don't think Pulkkinen would have made a big difference yet. These games are so much harder than SM-liiga games. Guys like Pihlström and Lahti, who were stars in SM-liiga, are just energy guys/grinders on WC team, and Pulkkinen would not be able to play that role. He also doesn't have a spot in top-6 yet. Who'd you leave out? Of course he could have been a 13th forward/PP specialist...

Of course whining.. All that can be done to cover up the truth... Look at the total penalty min. and shots on goal... It should have even been a shutout and in my eyes it was still a shutout ;)... Czechs did what they were suppose to do.. Clean up. Took patient shots and Jagr made one hell of a heads up goal... It was the easiest goal he will have in this tournament.. Easy for him atleast. Maybe film will be watched on how to lift the puck for the Finns. Bottom line... Being optimistic for your team to win and just being overly confident and then posting how beautiful this team is and how they are better in every facet is just a mask over the eyes. It's fun to type when you have a "parade" of followers rooting for a team. I guess when they dont even make it these "fans" will still say they were the best team in 2011. And the refs lost them the game...:D

Great game by Finns, even though they lost. Late goal didn't help to win but atleast it should boost confidence. In my eyes, this was a win and it really showed that team Finland can be a tough opponent against the other great countries.

That was crazy game by Pavs, without him we would be lucky to loose 2-5 or so. But I take those pts, still we have a lot of things to work on.

So he is hurt ;)

Feel free to dominate, I care about the score. ;)

Or "Dominate" :sarcasm: ... Amen to that my brother! I think Jiri in your Avatar is pointing to the scoreboard

I agree that dominating or what so ever doesnt help if you dont get the points. But I dont agree on your flaming...

Well im going from the top of my head here... But lets see... Czech/ Czechoslovakia 3rd all time in history behind Canada and then Russian / Soviet...

Sweden is a very close 4th....

As far as Olympics... "Best of Best" .... Since 1998 when NHL allowed its players to compete Czech Republic is tied w/ Russia and now Canada (since they won gold in 2010 Olympics) to be the only 3 countries since 1998 + NHL to have 2 medals in the Olympics....

;)

At least we have Teemu Selanne who, at the age of 40, makes more points in the NHL in 73 games than any Czech or Yankee who played 73 games or more. :sarcasm:

And I dont think that we are superiour to Czechs by any means, but if you watched the whole match today you can only wonder the penalties against Komarov and Ruutu (or that Plekanec didn't get one at that time). I think there were one or two other bad penalties called for Finns, but I dont remember them clearly righrt now. That being said, I don't think we would have won without those penalties either. We dont have any proper goal scores (barring Selanne) in our nation.

Making a joke between a friend and supporter of the Czech team isn't flaming... But i will certainly tone down my condescending attitude. ;)

Selänne doesn't really count since we all know he is part robot.

That was a pretty good game. Without a monster performance by Pavelec the reffing etc. wouldn't even be discussed here.

Overall, I think team Finland has played better than expected. After all, we only have our number 8 or 9 goalie in the tourney and only the bottom six or maybe even eight D-pairing (Lepistö & Salmela) in the team...

If the Czechs could have converted on their powerplay, they would have won 4-1 easily.

I think that is the first time that I haven't seen them score on a two man advantage.

The Finns couldn't score if their lives depended on it.

What else is new! Thanks Jalonen for not picking Pulkkinen!

You have a weird definition of kicking someone's ass...

So you just bash every single Finnish fan? That's classy.

Also there were a couple of BS calls against Finns. Not saying that's why we lost because it is not but still. Ruutu got a boarding penalty even though Jagr didn't even touch the boards and Plekanec gets away with nothing. And Komarov's slashing call was a good call by the refs but Zidlicky not getting a penalty for the baseball swing at Leksa was beyond my understanding. + Koivu's roughing penalty when the Czech player shot the puck well after the horn sounded and didn't get anything. That's unsportsmanlike conduct to me but I guess I can understand why it wasn't called.

And winning the game doesn't mean you were better. If some Finns (ie. Immonen) could've got some air under the puck or had some accuracy (ie. Salmela, Lepistö) it would've been our game. But that didn't happen and the Czech got the huge 3 points and deserved it. Finns had the chances to win this game but just couldn't net the puck's so it's just a bunch of useless "what-if's".

Please try to post a good response. It would make my post a waste of long time if you just post something stupid. Thank you...

E: Watched the Ruutu hit on Jagr again and don't know what's up with my memory. Jagr does touch the boards with his right hand. But it definetly is not a cheap shot. Tuomo just kinda bumps into Jagr and he goes down. Bad balance or something.

Frankly, I think the Finnish fans claiming their team being superior and dominant in that game are largely missing the point. We were playing exactly the way we always do when we get the lead against a strong opponent, i.e. focusing on active defence and hoping to score on a break-away. Had the Finns scored first, it would be a different game, much more offensive on our part. That said, the Finns were much better than I thought they would be. Their power-play is scary.
I cannot get how people can actually defend that Ruutu's cheap shot. I also noticed some users speculating earlier in this thread on which Finnish player is going to get Jágr this time... come on people, you are better than this.

100% true.

What the hell was that call against Komarov? That was a total joke!

Plekanec should have been penalized.

Oh well, this is expected from this tournament, year after year, there will be B.S calls, it happens to every team.

Would be nice to see a rematch of Fin vs Cze again this year, if it's possible. :yo:
