It's the Gomez dilemma. Not a bad player, but one who limits you & what you can do. Things would be different if he was Lukaku or Haaland, but he's just big & hard-working.

Well we'd all prefer a guy who's fast, skilled and strong, but in reality most teams don't have that guy. I think it's a false dichotomy. Sure, Weghorst limits what you can do, but so does every other option. Every player type provides a different set of possibilities, and in some game situations, a guy like Weghorst gives you the ones you need.

Austria doesn't suck, but the conditions of the game aren't favorable. First they had one guy get suspended and then they're the only team in this match that has to travel to play the other team at their home ground. The latter also applies to Switzerland yesterday. Fortunately it seems everyone has considered this a bad experiment and it will never happen again.

Hopefully the rubbish 24 team format goes away with it too.

While technically true...what Weghorst provides that Malen doesn't, is needed more rarely than the inverse and allows you less flexibility.

Expect Austria and Ukraine play an amicable 0-0 which sends both of them through.

Yeah, those guys offered literally nothing.

Schlager is an ox against the ball, but he just lacks the skill on it. Grillitsch is soooo much better for what they need, even if he isn't built as much like a truck.

And I'm pretty sure Ulmer is only playing because Foda is afraid of trusting Baumgartner or Lazaro to play LWB...in which case they should use a back 4 & play Alaba behind Baumgartner on the left with Lainer behind Lazaro on the right.

Baumgartner - notKoller - Lazaro
Sabitzer - Laimer
Grillitsch
Alaba - Hinteregger - Lienhart - Lainer

Also can Dumfries get a little more credit? Have always liked him; he's not special technically but he's a good RB and has been doing well in his role.
