The Australia team is decent, but they are obviously MASSIVELY overmatched here. Could scrape results in the other two games.

So I was watching a WC preview thing on youtube from Australia and before talking about the contenders, they talked about their socceroos. And one of the commentators (a silverfox named Foster) made a point about how this marking Australia's 4th consecutive WC appearance highlighted the Australian federation's failure to take advantage of their unique qualifying position to plan long-term with their NT to develop a real identity & style that could let them someday do something more than just qualify for the World Cup every cycle. Since Australia are going to have more world cup games in the future & probably a lot more world cup losses, he argued that they should worry more about how they lose & their long-term plan than whether they can eek out a point or two by playing anti-football at the WC, or not.

It was easily the most cogent & insightful NT analysis that I can remember hearing made before a WC in english or german media. Shame the Aussie's chickened out & brought in BvM for this tourney on an interim basis. Hopefully, the next guy is given the rope to really shape them in qualifying, even if that makes the process a little more nervewracking for them than it has been in other cycles.

Sooooo, it seems DD has once again seen the light right before the tournament's start.

He's going to lineup Pavard and Lucas at FB (Sidibe and Mendy are really short in terms of coming off injury) who have been extremely good when played.
In midfield, Tolisso will replace Matuidi and play with Kante and Pogba. Good.
And up front, no Giroud, and Dembele, Griez and Mbappe will start instead.

That looks fantastic. Hopefully they play together like their potential suggests.

Well now I have to hope that your players are so complacent that they convince DD he was mistaken & you need Matuidi & Giroud's leadership back in the starting 11!

Is Mbappe/Dembele optimal for a team that will inevitably park the bus? I believe Fekir instead of Dembele at the start would be more adequate in this situation. Ironically, Australia is the type of opposition against whom Giroud would be most effective.

Next guy is Graham Arnold. Notorious for preaching boring football.

Australlia is looking oddly comfortable in this match. Mooy is looking amazing thus far for Australia, slowing it down and getting some good looks

Expected Australia to be way more negative than this, I'm pleasently surprised.
Well, van Marwejk and his son in law seem to be a pretty good fit for the australiens..

France needs to pick up their movement in midfield, no pace and lazy pressing won't do it against those aussies..
