That's why I said typically. While I would agree on 1990 and 2014, where Germany played very evenly, I entirely disagree on on 1974 and 1954. Holland and Hungary had the hottest starts in those.

True, those two had the hottest starts...and in Hungary's case the best team (without question)...but we started 54 & 74 with 4-1 wins as well, so I couldn't restrain my smartassery :)

nah, just have too many friends working in the sport...and I grew up on tapes of the 72-76 west german NT :laugh:
I could only imagine the atmosphere around the W. Germany team after the loss to DDR in the group. They could only atone for the loss with a World Cup win. And they did.

I must disagree, losing to a goal from the GOAT in their match against the cooler germany, was only to be expected...

Not brilliant...but a win is a win and Australia didn't deserve sth in this game. They only defended (very well) and that's all.

We are very young and without chemistry so anything we can win in this world cup is gaining experience for the future
