Played in the NHL for parts of 18 seasons, and only made it to the playoffs six times - all with the North Stars (with whom he played for seven seasons).

Just to annoy Canucks' fans, I thought I'd post some awesome images of Mark Messier! (and yes, these are all ones I've never seen before... except one)

That's Mess, on the right, as a WHA Cincinnati Stinger in 1979, going against (I think?) Ron Chipperfield.

Young Mess, 2nd NHL season (1980-81), does his Bobby Orr impression over the Kings' Dave Taylor at Northlands Coliseum.

Two great rugged centers goin' at it (vs. Trottier). I'm guessing this is circa 1987.

I think I used to have this on a magazine cover (?) when I was kid. This'll be circa 1987-88.

The trade that saw Cam Neely and a first round pick heading to Boston for Barry Pederson had the experts - at the time - scratching their heads.

Orr manhandled.

In 1974, the Big Bad Bruins met their match - in terms of physicality - with the Broad Street Bullies. Bobby Clarke and Andre Dupont are the Flyers welcoming #4 in to their end of the ice.

The fans at MSG were not at all impressed with d-men like Harry Howell (3) and before him Allan Stanley who were deemed to be not nearly physical enough. "Hit him with your purse!" they'd yell.View attachment 443014Scenes like we see here endeared Arnie Brown to those same fans.

Love the name on his pads.

In New Haven we used to yell hit him with your purse also. Must have filtered up from the big city.

I love how you see him getting progressively balder. When did he decide to give up and start shaving his head, about 93? He still had some hair when he got to the Rangers in 91-92, but as we all know he had it clipped by the time they won the cup.

I'm surprised that Worsley was even shorter than Hodge. Was this the most altitude-challenged tandem in modern times?
Worsley was supposed to be an inch taller than Hodge - 5' 7'' to 5' 6" - although he doesn't appear to be in the photo.
