Buffalo Norsemen, NAHL, 1975-1976. Fun while it lasted. This league WAS like Slapshot....

.... indeed it was. Supposed "WHA Development League", farm clubs. If people thought the WHA could get crazy they mustve never seen or heard about the NAHL.

I was thinking of Gordie due to an interview Wayne Gretzky had with his youngest son Dr. Murray Howe. Google it, it's cool....

Gordie and The Howe Family

Gordie had been hit in the face with Ted Kennedy's stick. Broken nose, cut eyeball, fractured cheekbone. Also suffered a fractured skull when he hit the boards head first (Same incident) Returned and won the scoring championship the next season.

Gordie and brother Vic Howe. Gordie had two other brothers who played a high level of hockey also.

Ya this is a great shot.... illustrative of Bower's aggressive stick work, his patented "Bower Pokecheck".... real art to it, timing everything. Dont like his odds in that particular situation above though he may have gotten just enough of his stick on it to create chaos & deny Howe full puck control, a clean shot.

If he got anything it was Gordie's legs - which still might not have been enough...

If you like me watched the 2010 Vancouver Olympics men's hockey games closely and still missed this photo, it's likely because Sweden lost the game 3-4. Here they're celebrating Hornqvist's goal from Petr Forsberg in the 2nd period that put the team on the board 1-2. But Slovak goalie Halak only let Zetterberg and Alfredsson later score, and both Hossa and Demitra combined for their 3rd points of the night in assisting Kopecky on the game winner. (Slovakia then fell to the Finns in the bronze-medal game.)

I have to admit that I was a little surprised to see how small the amount of tape was used by Orr on his sticks during his career. The amount of tape in the early years did indeed look like a lot by comparison.
