Robert Gordon Orr, feel free to ignore my suggestion but as an ex-journalist I feel "edit, edit, edit" is wise. There are a few pics in the last monster post that are pretty good to great (though the prison one I've posted before - it's indeed awesome) and several yawners imo. But again, **** me if you don't take it to heart. Walking away would be a shame and a loss.

Here are two photos you posted there that are clearly STELLAR, mind-blowing worthy in terms of hockey history and sports photography. And they make my day! Thank you very much! I must re-post them, without quotes, because this new HfBoards format would cut off most of the quote otherwise.

Yeah, and checkout the rates for rental on it. $7800 for a full day which seems pretty damn steep. Its essentially just an aircraft hangar. No seats. No amenities. I dont even know if its got washrooms... and wonder when the last time it was that they had ice in there as the floor looks pretty rough in places..... Seating (bleachers) is 2800.... would make for an interesting venue if the NHL were to stage a total retro throwback game between say the Sens & Habs. And I do mean "throwback". All original circa 1904 equipment including skates, no forward passing, 6 aside (use your top 6 skaters only plus a spare) + the Goalies... dasher boards, whole 9 yards & deck the place out with Union Jacks, bunting & all the rest of the ephemera & heavy draping they were so fond of during that period of the late Victorian / Edwardian age.

I was actually just in it on Sunday and I can confirm it does have bathrooms. And pretty much nothing else.

This shot is from 1983-84 (the Maple Leafs have the Sesquicentennial patch on their sweaters.) There was something very odd about Allan Bester's helmet this season. It was a much darker blue than the blue helmets that the club wore with their road sweaters, almost black. The following year, he no longer had this dark lid.

... more interesting & great photo's...... love that mountain pond hockey shot above posted by RGO, ice like glass, makes you wanna get out there..... and I see that shot of Red Kelly checking a Red Wing wearing #8, and ya that is Im pretty darn sure Pit Martin, and I think its probably from the fall of 1965 which is (again pretty sure) Red Kelly started wearing that new helmet. Previously he'd been wearing a Cooper-Weeks Beetle Bailey lid. 3 piece helmet. That one obviously fully molded plastic. So I say fall of 65 but welcome to be corrected.... Sure looks like Pit Martin to me and he wore #8 in 63/64, 64/65 & 65/66's season but was traded in December 65 to Boston for Parker McDonald. That number, 8, real oddball within the Red Wings dressing room, changing hands, worn by multiple players within single season's so I can appreciate why there might be some confusion over who that is in that photo. Heres a list of players who wore #8....

^^^ Woo.... more great & rare photo's.... where on earth did you find those old photo's of Maple Leaf Gardens? Ive never seen them before, never seen that Turret Cigarette ad on the scoreboard either..... rare photo of Sammy Taft in his hat shop on Spadina in Toronto which for years was a "must stop & shop" for all of the NHL players visiting, game against the Leafs. Actually kinda "World Famous" as Sammy was "Hatter" to politicians, entertainers, you name it from far & wide...... the other photo that stands out (though all brilliant) is that fight scene between Gillies & Schultz, the latter tangling with a lot more than he can handle but "game" none the less.... really like those shots of Favell & Tatar as well.

That picture of the Rocket and Plante is mesmerizing mainly because of the Rockets eyes. His eyes are so dark. Where or from whom did he inherit his eyes from? Does he have any Native Canadian blood in his family tree?

1975-philly.jpg

May 20, 1975 - Stanley Cup finals between Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres. The third game of the series was the legendary Fog Game. Due to unusual heat in Buffalo in May 1975, and the lack of an air conditioning system in the auditorium, portions of the game were played in heavy fog. During stoppages of play, rink employees skated around the arena ice carrying bed sheets in an attempt to dispel the fog. Players, officials, and the puck were invisible to many spectators. The fog began to form just minutes after another odd incident: A bat in the arena, which flew above and around the players for the majority of the game, until Sabres center Jim Lorentz killed it with his stick. Many superstitious Buffalo fans considered this to be an 'evil omen,' pertaining to the result of the series. It was the only time that any player killed an animal during an NHL game. The game continued and the Sabres won thanks to Rene Robert's goal in overtime. The Flyers would go on to win the series 4 games to 2 with a final 2-0 victory over the Sabres in Buffalo on May 27, 1975. That would be Philadelphia's second Stanley Cup championship in a row but they have not won it since that year.

Perhaps it wasn't quite as severe, but fog was also featured in the 1988 Cup Finals.
