The party (Player or Club) who did not elect for Arbitration decides on the awarded term [CBA 12.10(a)&(b)]Pretty sure the number of years is the teams choice.

So in this case it would be the team. The party (Player or Club) who did not elect for Arbitration decides on the awarded term [CBA 12.10(a)&(b)]
No, Fiala was Team-Elected... so he is the lone case where it would be the Player. So in this case it would be the team.
I agree plus we had to get to the floor somehowGranlund is a top 6 forward and insurance in case Glass and Tomasino aren't ready yet.
I'll never understand team elected arbitration in that scenario. You are basically handing him ufa status in 2 yearsNo, Fiala was Team-Elected... so he is the lone case where it would be the Player.
Poor Fiala. He was given every chance to lose the attitude and play here. The fans were ready to embrace him as Preds new superstar and Nashville is an easy place to play. But his inability to accept coaching and get along with teammates led him to Liepold and you knew that wasn’t going to work long term. He’ll likely float around a few more years till the skills erode never achieving his goals.I'll never understand team elected arbitration in that scenario. You are basically handing him ufa status in 2 years
Turns out Travis Sanheim is in this boat too. It's definitely not common. I think the general argument is that they only do it if there is an enormous gulf on perceived contract values AND they are worried about RFA offersheets. This ensures the player can't sign an offersheet.I'll never understand team elected arbitration in that scenario. You are basically handing him ufa status in 2 years
I mean you are basically winning short term only to shoot yourself in the foot long term. At least if you get an offer sheet you get something for it. I mean you could trade him but the value is reduced because they know he is an ufa. Just seems counter productive.Turns out Travis Sanheim is in this boat too. It's definitely not common. We are finally seeing the player we thought we were getting when we traded Fiala for him.
