I don't think you need all the skilled guys on the PP.....keep some competition for the PP spots....whoever is playing well at the time etc.

Hall-RNH-Eberle/Pouliot-RNH-Perron
Nurse-Fayne

Perron-Draisaitl-Yakupov/Hall-Draisaitl-Purcell
Nikitin-Schultz

Seriously....if guys are dancing around and getting owned on the PP then go with Pouliot and Perron on the 1st unit. I want the option to remove both Yak and Ebs from the powerplay for spite purposes.

I'd also like to see Drai with an offensive D guy to see if he can redo that Morrissey magic.

Any PP that doesnt have Nail on it I consider to be a joke. He's got the best release in the last 25 years on this club and hes not on the 1st Unit PP?

I dont care how bad he sucks defensively. Play people to their strengths.

Yup, It's a huge reach to suggest Yakupov could be like Ovechkin and Stamkos. Comparing a 1st overall drafted for his scoring prowess to two 1st overall's that were drafted for their goal scoring ability. Why even bother discussing putting Yakupov in a similar position that brought identical players success. Screw Nail, he sucks amirite heheh. GMofOilers ur so smrt, teach me how to smrt.

Also, Stamkos didn't struggle early on in his career like Yakupov. Not at all.

Yes its a huge reach, like I said, They both had 50 goals in the second season, and have both scored 60 in their careers so far, yet Yak hasnt reached 20 yet

At least if your going to put me down, have a little argument. Argue them numbers if your so smart. I dare you to be able to compare Stamkos and Ovie with Yak. Please do smartie pants. Ill be waiting to hear your argument. :yo::handclap::yo::handclap:

Well with Stamkos, Torts wanted to send him down right before he was canned. I remember Stamkos struggled mightily to start his career. Many thought he shouldn't be playing up and could benefit in the minors first. Then suddenly a coaching change and being paired with Marty St Louis helped.

Let's be real here, Marty was amazing, still is. He was able to find Stamkos for one timers many times and drove the play. Stamkos was the trigger man.

Who do we have that can do that on our team with vet leadership? No One.

Ovechkin is a generational talent in the same ilk as Crosby. But if you want to compare again, remember Ovechkin didn't need to play defence, the Caps team was STACKED, and still is. They built around him properly. This was when they had Green as a monster in the back. Ovechkin was given the keys to the organization, and no amount of defensive miscues was going to take his ice time away.

Fast foward to Yakupov and he's been saddled with third liners his entire short barely over 100 NHL games player career.

The kid is 21. Moving away from home, learning a NEW language and alone. Get off it. Give him time to develop and find his own niche. The kid breathes hockey, he loves Edmonton, and has taken massive strides in the midst of coaching changes.

Some of you fans are absolutely ridiculous. :shakehead

You should be the coach. Single out two players before the season even starts to have as spite-able scape goats! weeeee

umm no. In a leadership position you don't just "spite" people. You hold the entire team accountable and create an environment where the players are accountable to each other.

I want to see them use Yakupov in the high slot for quick strike one timers. His release is so quick in tight I think he would be much more effective there than on the right side.

eg. Stamkos. Not that I'm comparing Yak to Stamkos, but I would like to see Yak off the point. Also I'm sure this has been said already in this thread but whoever said it first I totally agree let's be friends.

Well I used the word spite for spite purposes

They need to create competition and not gift spots, not that they will or have

Not really a stretch to put one of your top scorers (Ebs) on the PP. Don't really know where you are going with this.

Barry Melrose, not Torts. Another arrogant full of himself and in over his head coach that didn't know how to coach talent. Luckily for Stamkos he was quickly fired, unluckily for Yakupov Eakins doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

Didn't Dellow do an analysis near the end of last season on how the Oilers could emulate Washington's power play model?

Thanks for the correction, I knew something was kinda amiss :)

Unlucky is right. Eakins is an arrogant and full of himself coach as well. Unable to put players in positions to succeed.

Entering and keeping the zone was by far their biggest problem last year.

I'd like to see:
Hall/Perron/Pouliot
Schultz/RNH

Eberle/Drai/Yak
Schultz/RNH

I think any combo of d men would work fine on the second PP unit. Although IMO Petry should get that spot. We have enough balance on defense where we can actually use him where we need him.

Last year teams that had an aggressive PK killed us. The kid line could not handle the pressure. So put Hall with two guys that can get and hold the puck and score dirty goals. It won't be pretty, but they will score goals which is sort of the point.

The second PP line is more of a traditional PP line. You have Drai and Yak together (which we all want to see work out), and Eberle who IMO is the only player on the team who has shown any on ice chemistry with Yak.

Those two lines have completely different looks which will be tough to defend against. Go with the hotter group as your number one.

Yup. MacT said right after the Marincin cut that Hunt was kept for his puck moving abilities. All this talk about Hunt being the 7th guy over Aulie is crap. Hunt is playing in the top 6 over Marincin.

Unsure where the Hunt > Aulie talk came from. Marincin lost the OFD job to Hunt, because Hunt showed more consistent play and less river-boat.
