Not a caps fan and doesn't watch their games outside playoffs but it seems he doesn't get much help from his teammates, atleast not the same way Kane is getting for example.

If people want to make the argument that Ovie is the best player in the game, then it shouldn't matter.

The best player in the world cannot win alone. Not even the two best players on the same team(Crosby and Malkin at the time). Ice hockey is not basketball.

All Ovie fan boys probably crying right about now. lol. But in all seriousness feel bad for Ovie. The look on his face after the OT goal said it all ... but folks that is why you never guarantee a win.

Except Crosby and Malkin rarely get that excuse made on their behalf regardless of the rest of the players on their team, yet Ovie has that excuse made in his favor all the time.

When Crosby won the cup you had Crosby and Malkin, 2 of the NHL's best players, firing on all cylinders. Ovechkin doesn't have a Malkin. If you want to debate that please start a Backstrom vs Malkin poll, and it will locked within minutes for being lopsided.

Man I feel so bad for him. They should have won game 5, but sat back too much in the third and it cost them. It's going to happen Ovie, don't give up :(

There not linemates. After 10 years crosby is now clearly the superior player. His reg season ppg blows ovechkin out of the water and so does his playoffs stats. I mean its not even close. Ovechkin has been on great teams even on PRESIDENT trophy winning teams yet still no results. Crosby>ovechkin

I guess Backstrom is mediocre again?

After a regular season with endless commentary here about how underrated he is and how he's an elite center who doesn't get enough respect.

This game wasn't AO's fault. He played very well and was the best player on the ice not named Lundqvist or Holtby.

So by shifting the blame to Backstrom, are people trying to say Ovie can only be good if Backstrom is good? Hmm. How can someone be considered a top 3 player in the game today if he's so dependent on someone else? :dunno:

1) Ovi is not the best player in the world.
2) Crosby and Malkin did indeed win a Cup together, in fact, almost 2 in a row.
3) The excuse of "Ovi can't do it all by himself" is a complete joke. Since he has been there, the Caps have a President's Trophy, two #1 seeds in the East, and plenty of #2 #3 #4 seeds. They have been a good team overall. There is no excuse. They remind me of the Sharks for a long stretch. Year after year they were one of the best teams but could never finish. But at least the Sharks made in past the 2nd round.

It doesn't matter. You have 2 players carrying the team. Look at the point totals of those 2 during that run.

Penguins have had the superior teams most of the time.

To say its not even close is really asinine. I question your motives on whether you are just coming here to start a fight. You are clearly biased towards your favorite player Sidney Crosby.

And since you live by HF polls, why don't you refer to that after 10 years poll. If it wasn't close that poll would have been locked for being lopsided. That poll is closer than a tight presidential race. There is an argument to be made for either player.

If you want to talk playoffs Toews > Crosby. Bring up PPG all you want. Go ahead. But 2 cups+1 Conn Smythe blows 1 cup out of the water.

Crosby and Malkin had 31 and 36 points. The 2009 pens scoring leaders

Malkin 36
Crosby 31
Guerin 15

As you can see both of them doubled the third leading scorer on the team. The penguins have never been "superior" to the caps as the caps have the better finishes and as I already mentioned have won the presidents trophy during ovechkins tenture with the team.

Backstrom is a former 100 point scorer and is led the league in assists this season. So he is not some smuck he is a really good player. Point being ovechkin has had more than enough chances just has not been able to perform to standards.

He is now under a ppg in the playoffs while on playing 72 games. How many other all time greats had that kind of production in the playoffs? Not crosby. Not forsberg etc.

Crosby wins just simply wins

Didn't Ovi score the caps only goal tonight? At some point you need to look past one player and realize that him being one of the best is not going to be the defining factor in winning a cup.

Unless your name is Henrik Lundquist, of course.

If you look at playoff PPG over the last 5 years. The highest is Kane, and he is just over PPG. Most superstars in that period are well under PPG.

Man, seeing Ovechkin's reaction on the bench when the Rangers scored was pretty sad. Can't blame him for the loss tonight... he did score the only washington goal. Sometimes other players have to step up at the right moment.

Anyone else really not looking forward to the Rangers playing any farther in this post season? How many more games do we need to see Lundquist steal?

I'm talking career. Jagr crosby and forsberg for example are all well above a ppg while playing 100+ playoff games while ovechkin is under a ppg while only playing 72 games and never being in the third round where the competion is harder. I mean 118 points in 100 games vs 70 points in 72 games. Look at those numbers and forget that ovechkin is your favourite player for a second. It's really not even close
